Are our Vendors messing us about?

The thing is, if you are very "picky" or have specific wants then surely it is better to see what is on the market BEFORE marketing your own property?
We had specific wants - period property (not on an estate), which needed work but habitable, also with parking.
We weren't even planning on moving but saw a house that looked like it fitted our requirements. Went to view and then put our property on the market.
If it falls through we won't be moving because nothing else fits our requirements.
If you are after a relatively modern house on an estate then these come up frequently so you can sell yours first before looking.
I don't think the OP is being unreasonable. Five weeks on and they have no sense of urgency. Was there much interest in the house?Ageing is a privilege not everyone gets.

I don't think 5 weeks is very long at all...0

that's a problem when the vendor is not chain free. Either find somewhere else or stick with it."It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

I disagree with most above. After 5 weeks i'd expect at least some movement and more importantly the lines of communication to be better.
OP you need to start looking elsewhere and detach yourself from this property. If it ends up yours great but resign yourself to the fact it maybe wasn't meant to be.0 -
I agree with marksoton. 5 weeks wait wouldn't be the problem for me but the lack of communication would. You think the vendor would like to reassure you of their position and their search for a property purely to ensure that you continue with the purchase. I'd still look at other properties if I were you and pull out if something else suitable came up.0

Five weeks is a long time to be kept in the dark, wondering, hoping and unable to plan anything while the other side indulge in a spot of couldn't-care-less silence.
As in so many things in life, if only people would talk to one another...0 -
I think you are being unreasonable. I know you are eager to get on but you want updates on their lives and they're supposed to update you when they go away!!! You are welcome to continue viewing properties but not track the movement of your vendors. It might take them a few months to find something, especially in a slow market like we are having now. How long did it take you to find a property?
If they find something then great, if you find somewhere else then pull out.
Maybe not. But to not tell their EA was pretty bad.You can pick your friends and you can pick your nose but you can't pick your friend's nose.0 -
I've sold a house recently and I didn't know I had to tell my estate agent every time I went away? Good communication about how your search is going etc is important. But I didn't feel the need to tell them every time I went away for a few days. I'm not sure I even told my mum!
Also I'm not sure going on holiday demonstrates a lack of commitment. It's summer. People go on holiday. Often booking them quite a while in advance.0 -

You don't have to tell them, obviously.
But it makes sense to.You can pick your friends and you can pick your nose but you can't pick your friend's nose.0 -
I don't think 5 weeks is a long time especially with the current market as it is. I'm at the final hurdle to completing on my new home and I've noticed that the market has cooled over the past month. The number of properties in our areas for sale has reduced and I understand from my EA that the number of buyers have reduced too.
I do agree it's unfair to you that the communication from the EA has been poor. As a seller I wouldn't be reporting in my movements but i would be updating the EA how my progress is going.
If you want a fast move and struggling with the lack of speed from your vendor i would be looking at other properties. I appreciate you've fallen in love with the property, it's just depends how much you love it to the waiting time.0
