TalkTalk Customer Poll

Talk Talk were a nightmare. After reading about their cheapest home phone deal plus free broadband, I made the stupid mistake of signing up to them. Their lack of communication was terrible, we were always left wondering when our 'go live' date was. Their letters and instruction booklets etc all arrived late - and their broadband service was just awful. I was with Plusnet before and never had any problems. With Talk talk it was so slow that I found it very hard to believe they offered up to 8 megs connection speed! After putting up with it for a week, I went back to Plusnet and BT and haven't had any problems since.
It was only after I contacted Plusnet they said that Talk talk had taken over my phone and broadband line illegally as they hadn't asked for the MAC code that would have been given to me by Plusnet when I wanted to leave them. Talk talk didn't even ask for my MAC code!
Shoddy service and they really need to improve their broadband service.:mad:0 -

Hi,
If you are moving onto TalkTalk's LLU equipment, there is no need to supply a MAC code as this is only used if you are staying on BT's own equipment in the exchange. There is nothing illegal about TalkTalk moving you over without a MAC code, i think the person you spoke to must have been mistaken. The changeover work is done by BT openreach and therfore must comply with all current regulations.0 -
TalkTalk is a nighmare!!!!
Initially with AoL BB, I said that I wanted to use their phone service only - next thing I know AoL BB doesn't work and TalkTalk have transferred me to their BB service - lost my BB connection for 10 days or so. Then the software wouldn't set up the service correctly with many useless calls to Jo'burg technical help.
Only by threatening legal action did I get any action. Finally it seems to be working - but my advice is go elsewhere. Try PlusNet.
Now listen to what my postie has told me. He wanted to move house (only 100 yards as the crow flies), but was unable to take his phone number with him for some reason. BT wanted him to take the line rental out in order to get a new number or pay a large fee. TalkTalk are not able to provide new numbers, only BT can do that. So it seems to me that having your line rental with another company is not a good idea.

i had big problems with the free broadband deal. they told me i could not have it because of the speed of my connection. i have had no problems since i sent an email to this man charles dunstone i don't know who he is but boy can he get things done. i have had phone calls from senior members of staff. try his email and see what happens. DunstoC@cpwplc.comAll went very smoothly, but luckily I had enough knowledge to utilise a wireless router when there settings / instructions were minimal. Unfortunately my local exchange is not yet able to give me the free broadband, but £10 a month is a good deal.:T
hope this is of help for everyone, and hope he is still using it i think he had a lot of emails last time it was published but it worked for me.0 -
I switched over from madasafish almost a month ago. No problems at all since then. Phone, broadband all work as expected. The only issue i had was getting my wireless router working (my own, not their make) and ended up giving up and putting their wired one in.0

I spend hours on the phone usually to India, to sort out problems. I now find if you ignore the problem it resolves itself. I am told because their lines are always overloaded they make the problems to cut down the users. I don't know if that is true but it seems it could be.
The price is unbeatable and because of that I put upwith it.0 -
OK as long as you don't need to talk to a support person. I'm running at 8Mb/s over TalkTalk and it works just fine most of the time. When it doesn't I go and do something less boring instead for an hour or two and it comes back.
Importantly I don't use their email - I use Google Gmail which has a decent spam filter built in, and I don't use their DNS servers - I use the OpenDNS ones. That gets around TalkTalk's problem areas - their server infrastructure - and of course it means I can easily switch away from TalkTalk if the network ever becomes unusable.0 -
I switched to Talk Talk because it was cheaper then BT over 3 month period, with free broadband, which i didn't have before. Phone was switched very easily and quickly, and no significant problems since. My computer wasn't good enough to run TalkTalk broadband, so kept the start up disc and installed everything about 3 motnhs later with no problems. So far no problems, bills are cheaper than BT, and have broadband which i didn't before. Can anyone comment on their offer of free Setanta Sports, as it seems a good offer, but I am concerned about the appalling customer service if you decide you don't want it anymore. Anyone tell me who would be legally responsible for providing the service, Setanta, or TalkTalk for promoting it0

Don't know if I've been lucky, but I still can't believe what I get for £20.50 a month, and we have had no real problems with the service.
Yes, there was an initial delay to get the broadband up and running, but we were upgrading from dial-up, so we didn't have to live for a period without broadband while we switched. Connection speed is only 0.5M, but that's not Talk Talk's fault - we're just a long way from the exchange - and 0.5M is fast enough for us anyway. We've had a good service for the past 12+months, only the odd occasion when there's been a problem - but that's normal from any provider, and it is resolved quickly.
The phone service has been excellent, and even if there was no free broadband I would still be signed up, as all my international and UK calls are included in the £20.50 (provided you avoid mobiles and non-geographic).
I would definitely recommend going for TalkTalk, provided you can wait a month or so for the broadband (this may have improved). If you're switching from one broadband provider to another then you may end up with an intolerable gap - but if this is the case, minimise it by ordering TalkTalk just as you go on a 2+ week holiday, and that will minimise the pain!:rotfl:0 -
I got billed for a modem which was supposed to be free. Called up Talk Talk and got put through to someone in South Africa. Pleasant chap. Very helpful.
Broadband stops fairly regularly, but disable the connection and then re-enable it and it works OK. Not frequent enough to be annoying. Connection speed is good.0
