I've never slept in a hotel double bed that was two singles put together and I tend to stay in budget hotels.
Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

Yup, I get why they do it. Just for my mind it should be clear what you're getting. We stayed in the Hilton for our 10 year anniversary and it's just a little disappointing to get a worse bed than at premier inn.

I would pick Premier Inn over Hilton anytime in the UK, PI beds are much better than most other hotels provide.

Singles are 3', double is 4'6, King is 5' and super king is 6'....so two singles together make a super kingsize. I've stayed in many Premier Inns that have had two singles bolted together with a superkingsize matress on top but then most divan bases come in two parts don't they?! I'm not sure how you feel a zip holding two bases together through a mattress unless you're the princess and the pea. Maybe I misunderstood something? Was the zip holding two singles mattresses together perhaps? In which case I can see why you'd be annoyed.

I think the OP was referring to the whole single beds, including single mattresses being zipped together.

Order a double room in future rather than a kingsize and you won't have this problem.

Super Kingsize in width, but not in length, it's missing 3"...
    Yes I know, ;)

It is standard in most hotels, certainly every hotel I have ever stayed in from budget to high end. They use the exact same rooms for twin or double, if you want twin the beds are pulled apart, if you want double the beds are pushed together. You can't expect them to have storage for hundreds of extra beds, what if one particular night every guest wanted a twin room?

A king size bed is a set size, it doesn't matter if it's two attached together or one whole bed, the size is the same.

My own king size bed at home has a divan base that is split in two obviously so that it could be easily brought into the house, by your reckoning my own bed is not kingsize because the base has two completely separate parts with just a basic metal bracket to hold the together with no solid fixings.

I have stayed in many hotels both budget in Uk and lots of budget and high end in the USA.

never had 2 singles pushed together, in fact many hotels in the USA have 2 queen ( UK king) size beds

Never stayed in a 'posh' hotel only budget / mid range. I have never had a mattress joined together, bases yes, but not the mattress.

If I splashed out to stay at the Hilton, I would be most disappointed with what the OP experienced.

Note to self, if I ever get the chance to go somewhere 'posh', must remember check out the bed/zip situation!

It's quite a common practice. I used to complain, nowadays I just don't have the energy.

It's not quite as annoying as getting a room with an interconnecting door with air gaps that allow *all* the noises from next door through to your room.

Or the rooms where the window doesn't open and the aircon doesn't work (Novotel latest to do this to me, but not the only one)

The only way you'll get compensation is if the OH has zip marks down her back.
You know what uranium is, right? It's this thing called nuclear weapons. And other things. Like lots of things are done with uranium. Including some bad things.
