Denied boarding ryanair

Just looking for advice. Daughter books holiday package with Travel Republic to Spain. Flights outbound Monarch, Flight Inbound Ryanair.
No Boarding Pass needed Outbound. Shows Paperwork from TR.
Inbound Flight. Shows Paperwork. Denied Boarding. No money, apart from €50 between 2. No Debit Cards (I know, stupid).
Ryanair say at check in, unless you have cash or card with you. No boarding card, no boarding. Not enough cash to pay for Boarding Cards at Total €90.
Stranded at Airport. Rang Ryanair UK, begged to pay over phone, at check in, at Info Desk No No No. Offered flight in 2 days time at €100 each. Not prepared to do anything else. Would not budge an inch.
Any "helpful" advice how to proceed would be most welcome.
The moral of the story is then, please everyone, adhere strictly, with military precision to Ryanairs rules, do not turn up at Airport UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES WITHOUT BOARDING CARDS irrespective of how the holiday/flight has been booked, and with no means to pay. I know she has been stupid, but I think to leave anybody in a foreign country with absolutely no means to get back is beyond the pale, especially when every other budget airline does not go this far with anyone. Surely they have a duty of care to some extent for God sake

For future reference, with a smart phone you can down load the Ryanair app and check in online then store your boarding card on your phone. A lot, but not all airports, allow you to scan your phone rather than have a paper boarding card.

Unfortunately, Ryanair are not flexible with a lot of things and will charge you for anything that doesn't comply with their rules and regulations.

Proceed with what? The fault lies entirely with your daughter and possibly Travel Republic if they failed to instruct her that she must check in online and print boarding passes in advance if flying with Ryanair.

Has she been through all the paperwork from TR with a fine tooth comb. I would be amazed if there is no reference at all to having to check in in advance for Ryanair.
I assume she has never flown with them before as this has always been the case you have 3 choices. Check in and print boarding pass yourself (free) Checkin yourself and pay for boarding pass at the airport (€15 each) or Pay to checkin at airport (€45 each) they are known for sticking to the rules and you should not expect anything different.
It does seem unfair though that they would not take payment by card over the phone as they would still get their money that way.
How did they get back in the end?

and this was not "denied boarding" (as in the definition that may be compensated) denied boarding would be when you are at the departure gate with your boarding pass before the gate closure time but are not permitted to board the flight. As they had not checked in they could not be denied boarding.

Ryanair make the rules and they do like to stick to them.

Very little money and no cards is a recipe for disaster regardless of ryanairs rules

Check the Travel Republic paperwork. If not mentioned on there about the Ryan Air checkin then it could be something to highlight to them. That said I feel fairly sure that they would have that covered and mentioned the check-in process or need for the passenger to check with the airline.

Apart from that I think the only 'helpful advise' is that you and your daughter learn from this experience. Check travel documentation, research the formalities in advance and ALWAYS travel with sufficient funds or payment methods to deal with unexpected eventualities.

As a matter of interest, if she did not have a debit/credit card with her then how could she have paid over the phone?

I have copied the following from the Travel Republic faq section on their website.

Online Check In – You will be required to check in on the airline’s website, print your boarding passes and present your Etickets upon check in (failure to do so can result in a penalty fee applied by the airline).

Someone else could pay on her behalf.

Ryanair have a history of creating archaic rules to make more cash from the unwary (limited range of payment cards, check-in online upto 7 days only, so many can't check in return flights before going, etc). They could choose to waive or not even create these payments, but if they're getting £10/seat then they need to make cash somewhere else in the chain to put fuel in the wings!
