Its just seedlings Madatha, cheap way to do this is pea shoots from a box of dried marrowfat peas, if you use felt/ cottonwool over compost then slop a bit of cold tea to feed them when they have sprouted
I'm not quite clear on this.
Do you mean:
- layer 1 = compost
- layer 2 = felt or cotton wool
- layer 3 = the dried peas on top of all of that

Nargle, maybe I could stomach kale if it was only 1" long and well drowned in soup
That's great Tori and Capella - I have a pile of mushroom containers and a two 6ft long windowsills. New hobby!0 -

Sorry you can do it soil-less or in compost, soak the peas overnight then place on a damp layer of felt/cotton wool, keep the wool damp and wait for them to sprout, once sprouted feed them with some cold tea and leave to grow on, harvest when the plants are around 2" tall in around 10-14 days.
Or sow conventionally in compost and you wont need to feed them0 -
Fingers twitching to go scatter various seeds on various windowsills. Just offspring seriously not big eaters of real greens. Okkerd blighters.0

Weather has definitely broken now.
Been raining since early morning, and temperature is much cooler. :cool:0 -
And it's LOVELY!!! rain, oh the glory of rain and hearing it pattering on the window panes in the night and being cool enough to drag on a blanket and knowing that the water butts are filling, the garden is getting much needed drink and that the rain dance I did two days ago seems to have worked! YIPPEE!!!0

Has anyone ever fermented veg, specifically cucumbers please? I have ten cucumber plants on the allotment, all producing like crazy and I would like to try fermenting them for their beneficial organisms. I have three Mason Jars but I don't think they will hold much. I could really do with some of those old glass sweet jars, but I don't suppose they would store well!
I also have a Rumtopf and wondered if I could utilise that. The fermentation will produce gas but I could leave a significant airspace and put it in a bowl so that if it overflows, it's not too messy. The plan would then be to decant the fermented cukes into smaller containers, cover and refrigerate.
What do you established fermenters think please?Solar Suntellite 250 x16 4kW Afore 3600TL dual 2KW E 2KW W no shade, DN15 March 14
