Ooh thank you for all the suggestions everyone. I'll try kelp and the Tesco tablets plus some iron. I take a good B vit supplement which contains the activated form of B6 because that stops the magnesium in my calcium supplement giving me - well let's say the opposite problem to constipation.
Sounds a bit like the old lady who swallowed a fly doesn't it?:rotfl:
But the calcium supplement contains K2 with all the other bits it needs and it has hugely improved my bone density in just two years. Hip is normal and spine is now -2.7 instead of -2.9. when you think that bone density would decrease with time in the normal course of events I'm quite pleased with that. I do try and walk a lot to build the bone density and if that means I have less energy for other things, I'll have to work round that. I am thankful every day that I am retired and no longer have to drag myself to a job I hated. It would be so much worse if I were still workingIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
Having trouble logging on with Halifax this morning. halifax is part of LLoyds and the TSB debacle arose because they are trying to separate their IT system from LLoyds. DH can't log into LLoyds either. Knock on effect? It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

Actually I think it might be because they are updating all the data protection consents and it's making things very slow. But there was a comment in one of the financial pages this morning that the boardrooms of all the UK banks are on 'code red' because it is making people worry about their banksIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

Wilkinsons do a hair skin and nails supplement and for £2ish you get a 30 day supply. They are big tablets though so not terribly easy to swallow. I've been taking them for several months now and notice a real improvement in hair strength, it's not breaking any more.
Capella if you have some spare bricks and an old oven shelf/ metal grid you can make a cooking area by balancing the shelf on 4 x 2 piled bricks and securing the grid by 4 more on top of the grid in the corners and light your cook fire underneath the shelf, would give you a wider cooking area than your 1 ring burner and if you could set it in a sheltered spot you ought to be able to cook in relative comfort if you're wrapped up well enough. Might let you make stews without using umpteen gas canisters in the process. You can make 'damper bread' very well in a lidded cast iron casserole too, might be worth a go, Girl Guide style?0 -
I washed my car on Saturday, so for a short while I try not to drive it in the wet, as it gets splattered again.
In view of this, I consulted the BBC weather site. https://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/0/rg5 From Saturday until about 8am today it showed rain all day today, so I stayed pottering around at home. Also, left my washing in the machine until tomorrow.
You guessed it... Not a drop has fallen, and now there is none forecast for the rest of the day.
Anyone found a reliable forecast?0 -
It was spot on for here. Heavy rain non stop:(It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

MrsLW Thank you for the suggestion, unfortunately we - or rather our builder- have discovered that we have a leaking water main running under our house (4’3” head space under our floors downstairs) and the water board are currently digging up our small garden so outdoor space is non-existent otherwise we wouldhave adopted your idea  We knew there would be issues with the renovations, just had not thought that there would be so many problems or that they would take this long.
We are not allowed fires on the allotment from April 1st to 1st October either or we’d just light the wood burner down there and I’d cook on that. It is a rule that is rigidly enforced, as one local resident phones the council to complain if there is even a suggestion of smoke in the air.
I think we will just have to carry on as we are for the next fortnight, but we are thinking that we do need to be better prepared in the future.0 -
Goodness, I've just read the news reports of horrible weather in Kent & Essex - that's not that far away from us here on the South Coast, yet we've had a cool grey day that gradually brightened up & ended in beautiful sunshine! Still cool, but not as cold as yesterday, when I shivered my way through my first outdoor market of the year. It's looking like I will be able to get some allotment time this week without needing to scrape 8" of solid clay off my boots before I can clamber back into my van.
Noticed some garlic mustard/jack-by-the-hedge in bloom down at the riverbank this evening. I shall try & nick some seedpods off it later in the week; I've been trying to grow it in our little "forest garden" for years with a complete & total lack of success so far!Angie - GC Aug25: £106.61/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -
Just spent an enjoyable half hour wandering around foraging pages after looking up jack-by-the-hedge.
I know where there is some and I now know what to do with it!!!
So excited...
LilliEverything will be alright in the end - and if it's not alright, it's not the end ........0 -
Yea.. I was having problems logging on to the Halifax app yesterday also. Getting slightly worried re the whole banking sector and the old money under the mattress might be the answer again.
To be fair, this was the TSBs first attempt after breaking away from the Lloyds group but the so obviously weren't ready for it that it's scary they still went ahead - especially with all the security issues...
Let's hope that as and when the banking sector continues to upgrade systems that they take a bit more time in the future to do beta testing to iron out bugs etc before general release but not looking good.0
