Flu jab done. The pharmacist was really good, I didn't feel it at all (at the time! arm quite sore now). I'll use Asda again. Thanks again Ancient of Days for putting me onto thatIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

High winds and very heavy rain are forecast for this Sunday, warm tropical air over us with remnants of Hurricanes Maria and Lee. I shall be changing my water stores tomorrow, making some soup and making sure I have a good flask of boiling water in case we get power problems and I already have in enough 'just add boiling water' food items in store to ensure we're fed warm food for at least a week. We have a couple of big blue camping gaz canisters and a screw on burner that works on them to use if the wind is too strong to use the Kelly kettle outside. Wood burner logs etc. will be to hand indoors to warm us up and garden items will be put away and all made secure for the coming blow tomorrow night into Sunday.0

I'm travelling back downcountry on Sunday - not looking forward to that! But it will be good to be home.Angie - GC Aug25: £106.61/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0

There is an interesting comment on Zerohedge from Slack Jack, Sept 29 at 7.33pm to this article: http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-09-29/monitor-releases-simulation-what-nuclear-strike-north-korea-would-look
Particularly interesting is the mad sounding article: 'Proof that Adolf Hitler was a double agent'.

Going back to preps, I've got a bigger order than usual coming Sunday from sainsbugs. Half doz of each of these :
UHT milk
chicken noodle soup (pkts of dried)
chicken soup mix
veg soup mix
mushroom soup mix
mashed potato
instant porridge
all day breakfast
semolina (for me!)
spam (for him!)
tins mixed veg (basics, for soup & stews)
tins carrots (basics for lentil soup)
microwave sponge puds
custard (basics for me)
tinned potatoes
small wholemeal loaves
Fray Bentos pies x 3
porridge oats x 3
Splenda x 3
I buy other things like teabags, cat food, cat litter & meat, in bulk from Costco
Next week I'll cover the soap/toothpaste/cleaning gunk. But it's making me feel a lot happier, nothing worse than running out of one thing that you really can't manage without on a cold or snowy or wet day in midwinter.
I remember you first mentioning this a week or so ago, mar. I'm having difficulty in thinking where to store stuff, as so many rooms will be disarranged by having the builder here (if he ever gets here) and we as a family have just arranged to transport lots of my mum's stuff down here - I have a new chest of drawers, a new standard lamp, two dressing gowns, a sewing machine, tons and tons of genealogy work
but still, winter stores have to be ordered. I'll have to restock on frozen veg once a fortnight or so, but I'm going to work hard on minimising unnecessary contact with the flu only a short while away.

If that was me MrsL, I'd probly pile the tins & packets in cardboard boxes of a decent size that I could drag from one room to another if need be. And mark on them what they are. It would annoy me because I'm very tidy, but at least I'd know where they were and that I could move them instantly if need be.0

Today I'm re-thinking. The RV is looking increasingly frail, this year his wellbeing and strength seem to have taken a nose dive. Even the neighbour over the road (who is so self-centred and self-absorbed that if WW3 was going on around her she'd still be banging on about her aches & pains) stopped him from cutting her grass and said he looked ill. I need to get in some Complan or BuildUp, and work on cooking (BLEUGH) highly nourishing meals for him. And look at ways to cope with the stove on my own.0

Aw mar you slow cooked broccoli to look after your man. You know your stuff re: vitamins and what the body needs but I have a suggestion for you in terms of the bleugh situation... hear me out and don't be laughing though ok
I wonder if going right back to the veggie weaning stage, or there abouts, might help you both learn to like veggies? Or how about raw snacking veggies with a yummy dip? I hated greens as a youngster and young 20summat but now I can't get enough of veggies. I think over the years I just got used to them.
Seriously - have a look at how to introduce veggies to younguns, follow the taste, texture info and you might just be ok.

We do eat veg though, every day. Being low carb means we need veg to fill the space on the plate
Costco mixed frozen veg, big bag at £7. I just have to smother the bl00dy stuff in white sauce or cheese sauce or butter. Or chop it up into wee bits (think mad serial killer mom mode) then drown it in gravy. And the very idea of eating raw veg would send me into hysterics!!
