Your comments about the jab have seen me croon concern to my still breathing parents & they are both booked to be nabbed this weekend.
Whether it will help is a cr*pshoot but it gives us daughters a shred of peace of mind, & it has a definite placebo effect on them both (if mum believes she's safe, she's much less likely to succumb & dad can be oblivious with the help of science!)
Mine's up in another fortnight but I need to persuade husband to join me. Our jab clinic is very sociable - folk help each other in & out of jackets etc so the names & needles keep flying, regardless of age & mobility. The two taboos are to come already coughing/sneezing & (apparently) to compare funerals. One's unprofessional, one apparently near caused a grief stricken punchup!
Off to lay in lucozade and the buttercup brew - shock & awe works on snuffling whinging teenagers too...0 -
I shall be making some purchases at the pharmacy after w*rk today to have by me for cold and flu preps. Throat pastilles are particularly important as I talk to people for a living and can't cope when sips of water don't suffice to prevent constant coughing jags.
Even if I don't get the flu (and I really hope not to, as pre-existing chronic condition makes any other illness extremely dangerous) I expect to have a cold or two in the next six months, and they won't be wasted.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I missed the tip about the lucozade before, thank you for sharing. Polly, as always, your memory is top notch.
I'm getting the pnemonia jab this afternoon, with the flu jab. My temperature is normal so I'll be wiggling my bottom down that hill pretty darn sharpish
Back to the lucozade. Can anyone tell.me what other brands there are of the sports drink. The reason being is my mam used to hide her vodka in a lucozade bottle and I can't bare to have them in the house. Silly huh?!0 -
Thanks for your kind words about my " top notch memory" Fuds . My fibro fog and I thank you :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Pretty well all shops have a version of lucozade . Just compare the ingredients with the original .
Finally pneumonia jab day , there were times I thought it would never happen . I wont say enjoy but it's a big thing sorted after a year of trying .

Tempting fate here but since I got into the habit of washing my hands the second I come into the house, I've had far fewer colds. I try really hard not to touch my face as well when there are lurgies lurkingIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

Thanks Polly. I'll have a look in Lidl to see if I can get some before I set DH on a wild goose chase in the bigger SMs.
I do this too Marybeth. It's a behaviour that is ingrained and I have to say I'm also edging towards having alcohol rub in my bag too. As soon as I walk out of a shop or use a banister in a public place I give my hands a rub. I'll be honest and admit I am fighting it becoming an obsession. It's all futile really as I have 2 kids that have to be badgered to wash their hands before food so I don't really have a hope.:rotfl:
Edit maryb sorry. Seems my tablet thinks you should change your name:cool:0 -
For the past few years I've been buying an Anti-Viral hand foam . In the past seven days we've been in two hospitals and with the GP twice . As DD has a suppressed immune system it was recommended by her Dr and endorsed by the others .
In the waiting room this morning we were surrounded by people who'd obviously missed the use a handkerchief or cover your mouth message . Wherever we go we see the same . If you think of handles , cash , machines and everything else it's wise to take care . It isn't ocd it's common sense especially in flu season , norovirus etc . Not everyone pays attention to basic everyday hygiene so they can spread infection mindlessly .

I'm fairly sure I've tipped over into obsession

I was in the local hosp today having a bone scan, and everybody in there seemed to be coughing their lungs up or sneezing. I'm sure I held my breath for half an hour!0
