I remember your dilemma with your African friend, jko, sounds like the son definitely has more sense than his dad!
I understand any Muslim who has health reasons for not fasting can make charitable donations in lieu or something like that. If he insists on doing it, and only eats after sunset, then he should check with his pharmacist about the appropriate time to take his medications. Some you can shift to evenings, but some have to be taken at specific intervals or times of day, depending on their formulation. Statins, for example - Atorvastatin is taken on a morning but Simvastatin is better taken at night, something to do with its half life. As I said, the pharmacist he gets his meds from should be able to advise. Whether he takes that advice is another thing, it doesn't sound, from what you say, as if he is one for rational, logical thinking. One life - your life - live it!0 -
That's interesting Nargleblast. thank you. OH is on Simvastatin so I'll check what time of day he takes it and will suggest he moves the time if necessary.
ETA That's all right, he already takes it before going to bed! Thanks again.0 -
sitting here deeply thankful tonight that DD2 is home safe - she was on her way home from uni for a few days after finals for a bit of spoiling by mum. She was on the tube at Bank/Monument tonight when they were evacuated and was unable to get to London Bridge. All tube and train stations closed and she had to get a night bus. I was terrified as she was waiting for the bus not too far away from where things were happening but Thank God! she made it away from Central London. It could so easily have been different if she had been 10 minutes earlier at Bank and had started walking across the bridge
All those poor innocent people, all just going about their lives like she was
I feel so sick, with relief and griefIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
Interestingly, although central London was in lockdown, the mobile networks were ok and she was able to keep in touch as I was online researching night buses and where to get them. But her battery was being drained quite quickly so top of the shopping list is a power packIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

I was also glad to have a reasonable amount of cash in the house as the night bus only took her part of the way and she could get a taxi knowing I could pay at this end.It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

It's a wicked, cowardly and incomprehensible act to kill innocents under any 'cause' or 'creed' NOT the act of sane people and totally condemned by the Muslim community. Sadly it has ceased to shock me I find and that is a terrible thing, I can watch the news going round on the Mobius strip that is the same coverage hour in hour out and although moved by the horror of it and the sense of anger that people NOT of this country feel they have the justification to maim and murder but not of shock any longer. I think it makes me a little less human and I am saddened by that too!
Mary I'm so glad your daughter got home safely, you both must have been so horribly stressed and frightened until she did. Have yourselves a real family day today, hug her and fuss her as much as you both need and love her the more for always! xxx.0 -
Thanks Mrs L, believe me I will ( though she says don't get all weepy on me Ma!)
She has tickets for the Adele concert later this month. You can imagine how I feel about thatIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
Life is to be lived, lived to the full and must go on (with the necessary awareness and caution at all times) being lived to the full no matter what events are happening that we have no control over. I hope the Adele concert is the best she's attended so far in her life , I hope that you can 'let' her go without the anguish of heart that parents must feel because they love their children and share her joy when she comes home safely afterwards. Life isn't a dress rehearsal, you only get one go at it.....best make the most of every opportunity eh? xxx.0

Indeed you are absolutely right - but I will make very sure her phone is fully charged and she has plenty of cashIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0
