Problem with having a shortage of any B vitamin is the B vitamins are water soluble, as is vitamin C. Consequently it is pointless taking loads of vitamin tablets because you just piddle them out in your urine. The only way to keep up your vitamin stocks is to eat a healthy balanced diet with a wide range of fresh unprocessed foods. This is where being an old styler cooking proper meals can help, especially if you grow a bit of veg and fruit at home.

  • Hi Fuddle, I have psoriatic arthritis and self inject. The drug I take is heavily controlled and absolutely no option to stockpile. I also rely on a slew of oral meds to control the side effects of the injection, for pain and to control iron levels and nerve damage. I only have a small supply of these. Since I'm on a ~"good" streak at the minute I could manage for 4 weeks, assuming I've just filled a prescription, otherwise I'm stuffed. In a "normal" emergency if I ran out for any reason I could go to A & E I guess, and my pharmacist is very helpful too. In a prepping situation my condition would worsen quickly to where I would be unable to walk, or to use my hands, and the bit of energy I have would plummet.
My prepping mostly is to allow me to stay home in bad weather etc - I wouldn't survive anything major. I'm very susceptible to infection, and often need to get to medical assistance quickly for that, which is an added pressure.
I try not to think too much about major incidents, just focussing on more likely scenarios and how I would manage them.

Hello! I've been diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis after around 2 years of them going back and forth between it and gout, though if you see my scalp (I have huge huge huge red patches all over my forehead) you would know it was psoriasis related. I'm only 29 so haven't taken up any medication as I only get the odd day when it hurts like a bi*ch then again I recently broke the ankle (completely of my leg, so pins and a plate) so I think I'm falling apart on that side. I dread the day that I'll have to take medication for it :(

In other news I bought some extra loo roll to keep as a stash! Need to sort out my kitchen cupboards before I start stashing food. Was looking at my skirting boards and see people who have made draws out of them and I love that idea, so might see if I can get the other half to do that, as that will give me some prepper space without going into my other space. Plus the other half already thinks I'm mad so keeping it out of sight and mind for him will be better!

I think it is the skirting underneath the kitchen units which hides the feet.

As well as primarily working with Americans, I've recently spent time with American friends in the UK - a couple who both have dual nationality, one US/UK, the other US/Italy. We discussed both Brexit and the US elections.

Re. Brexit - their friends who voted leave, when it was pointed out that one of the couple is in the UK on an Italian passport said 'oh, but it's not about people like you' as if some distinction had been made between desirable and undesirable EU nationals. When pushed, they said they meant Eastern Europeans... at which point they were questioned about the trades/nannies/beauty therapists they use (who the couple happen to know are Poles, Hungarians, Bulgarians and Romanians). Apparently they didn't mean them either...

On the US elections, they said (and I've felt this too) that they've realised that MOST of their acquaintances are out of touch with people who are different to them, and that they need to ensure that they and their kids don't get out of touch. It was good to have a rational and unemotional, non-partisan discussion of the issues.

We also thought this made some interesting points (BAD LANGUAGE WARNING)

On the other hand - I've noticed that the "people I know" almost universally assume everyone voted to Remain - rather than for Brexit.

That feels most odd to me - as I assume that everyone voted as an individual (rather than in accordance with "their" group - be they Brexit or non-Brexit).

I guess it's part of the way that probably most people assume everyone else thinks/acts the way they personally do in every respect?? I've noticed this in a variety of respects - for instance in my home area everyone assumes that "Of course you're anti-hunting" and they are perfectly correct. In current area - one can't assume anyone is anti-hunting and people who are pro-hunting are quite open about it and this is in the same country (just a different region of it).

Hurrah! Little windup/solar/USB charging radio has arrived & not only is is smaller than I imagined (fits Splendidly into BOB), it's Louder!
Sons already eyeing it thoughtfully - I foresee several more joining the household... Whereas Mine will have to sport a dash of bright enamel to identify it.

MITSTM - my echo chamber was industriously Remain & Hillary & so is reeling somewhat. "Make it look like an accident" is becoming a signoff/catchprase. Just as well we got the bonfire (& the effigy) burned when we did...
