And let us all now hope that you never have to try explaining to the constable why it is that you're carrying that in a public place ...

I won't be carrying it, on daily basis.

I have this as my everyday carry.

Re the flu jab, they are saying that since last year they got it wrong and a lot of people got flu, they have added a 4th strain to this year's vaccine and that seems to be new. But you do always get some people who have reactions to anything, and some who get a slight twinge of a headache and assume it's full-blown flu off the jab. So I was just asking around. I'm having it anyway because I always got flu every single year without fail without it.

I had my flu jab on Saturday. The only problem is a sore arm which I always seem to get.

October is always an interesting month in the financial markets. Let's hope we don't end up living in VERY interesting times

Very very interesting article Maryb. Thanks for the heads up! I think I'll investigate this some more and also look at my own investments with this in mind.

I don't yet get the feeling that this is spinning out of control though. I had a very bad feeling back in 2008 about RBS and got extra cash out.

But it could become a self reinforcing spiral if they don't play it carefully

I've still got a very bad feeling about RBS and I'm still in it because the RV flatly refuses to change bank! I always take all money out the day it goes in, apart from our 3 D/Ds.

:) I've been having the flu jab under hospital advisement for the past 20 years and have never had a reaction to it, at all. I have a pre-existing medical condition which could, potentially, make a dose of the flu a life-threatening event, so will be going again this year.

My understanding of the flu vaccines (and there are some fascinating books about flu, it really is a serious illness with a world-chaging history) is that the vaccine contains disabled viruses so you can't catch flu from it. But I guess any feelings of bleugh in the next few days may be attributed to the jab. Some people react the the egg protein in it, although they should always ask you if you are allergic to eggs and that info should be in the printed slip you get at the time.

Re DB, the 'Hedge has been writing about it in detail for years now. Seems that it is so large that its incredibly exposed and could fall over at any time. I sincerely hope not, because the fallout for a lot of people who are not a bankers will be grievous. I regard the euro imploding as an inevitability, and that it'll take the EU down with it as another one.

  • Good morning, sorry to change the flow of conversation.

Can anyone recommend a solar charger that can be bought in store - not from ammazzzon. I want to be able to charge phones/tablets with it.

    Thanks

Quite a few people on ME and Addisons groups having probs with this year's flu jab. Anybody here had it yet?

I have ME. Never getting a flu jab again after my last experience. Immediately made me feel very strange and almost passed out in the waiting room afterwards. Felt absolutely rotten for about a week. Don't mean to scare anyone as we all react differently to these things, but since then I politely decline my GP's flu jab invitations!
  • Last time I had a flu jab I just had what felt like slightly hotter than usual wee. Not full blown UTI thank heaven just central heating up a notch or three.

I see the met forecasters are getting their bids in early - lest anyone need a pretext for a tad more prepping, point them for a little light reading here
