First Class degree at aged 51

Congratulations, RoccoBunny!
If you're thinking of continuing with your studies, that sounds like a great idea!
But why limit yourself to your undergraduate subject? You seem to have chosen it for personal enrichment. By all means carry on in that area if you wish, but do bear in mind that many people pick a masters degree to prepare themselves for something they could get employment in, so they use it as vehicle for a career change.
Maybe see it as a chance to go down a road that will lead you into an area you'd be happy to work in in the future.
An undergraduate subject? Ahh I see you mean Psychology. That is why I kept it generic.0 -

Please do not flatter yourself Voyager. Read the thread properly. It was a member of academic staff whose comment came across as a put down.:rotfl:0 -

I'm afraid you're very naive if you think that standards are consistent across all universities.0 -

No no no, a couple of the first posters who jumped on the thread, Voyager just went on a different dimension, and then Tellit defended my achievement, than seemed to do a 180 degree turn, but I think a few earlier threads may have been deleted, Since that I got nothing but kindness and good advice, thank you all0 -

Go on mate, I am not naive, I went to GRAMMAR school. I know consistency, not going to argue or let people put my achievement down. Ploease be happy for me and stop the negativity.0 -

I have a friend who went to university at about the same age as you - reading History. She got a first, and 6 years later has just finished her PhD, having learned Russian along the way. For no other reason than because she wanted to, and she could.
I put my PhD on hold for financial reasons but fully intend to go back to it when I retire, because I want to, and because I will be able to then. I'll do nothing with it, but that's not the point.
Go for it, you've nothing to lose.
You have hit the nail on the head, this has started a very different journey, meeting like minded people, but a journey I was not contemplating starting, I did not expect a First Class degree.
Once you want to stay on that journey, it never ends, and finances will come into play. Keep in touch.0 -

Dont worry about it, thats how it is here, rarely will things go well in these forums, you should have seen the flaming I got when I first came here years ago, think it was on a different account (was more innocent back then).
Not a pop at any individual, its just how the forum is as a whole, best you can do is take part yourself and give help and information as you would like someone to give it to you. New people get flamed here, thats just standard procedure :eek:0 -
And you have also manipulated the train of this thread by deleting your earlier posts. Tellitt has deleted theirs completely. Sorry, but stay with your convictions, ridiculous, and then you have the tenacity to come back on this thread and try to stir it up again. Sigh, I learnt about people like you in the First Class degree I got :-)Voyager2002 wrote: »Does it matter? I have worked for universities (using my subject) so have met a fair number of students. Naivety has nothing to do with formal education.
Miss Biggles is right, there is a known pecking order of universities per subject specialism.
We don't know you personally so why do you feel we should be happy for you? Also, why do you perceive negativity where none exists?:hello:0 -
What is your daughter doing with her degree, can she not give you some ideas? Did she study a similar subject?
