acceptable distance to shops

The "retirement factor" more than the age per se factor I would call that:rotfl:
When working - most of my shopping was done whilst I was on my way to/from work anyway or having a lunchbreak anyway. I rarely went out specially "to shop" and try to slot shopping around social activities as far as possible these days (ie now I'm retired). The whole "Whilst I'm in town anyway - I'll get x" thing as far as possible. The weekly supermarket visit has to be a special "trip" though - as there's nothing I require personally near it basically (part of the whole grow-food thing - as I'm hoping to cut it to a fortnightly shop at some point:)).0 -
For me the closer I live to the shops the better! Having spent years in a village with no shop and the nearest small shop almost 2 miles away, or a 10 minute drive to a supermarket, (not an option for me as I don't drive) having the shops nearby is a must. I was very careful when I moved to ensure I could get to the shops easily, now I have 2 supermarkets, a DIY store, medical centre and vet for my dog all within a half mile radius -bliss! While it sounds like I live in a very busy area, I don't, it's relatively peaceful being on the edge of town. Town centre is about a 20 minute walk so other shops are also easy to get to.0

We're about 5-10 minutes away on foot from the town centre. When we moved we wanted to stay in the same area so moved about 5 minutes down the road. Although I drive I mostly walk so a central location was important for us.0

1/5 of a mile from a co-op and post office and other small shops which I really appreciate. Saves using the car which possibly saves a decent amount of fuel over the year. Despite this very short walk many neighbors drive there.0

I like a little shop just round the corner and a better shop within 5 minutes. And the internet for a big shop every three months or so.0

In my last house, I could see a Tesco metro out of one window and a Lidl out of the other. There were also a butchers, corner shop, hairdressers/barbers, and even a few charity shops. All about a minute walk in an average sized village. It is also 5 minute bus ride to the city centre and 5-10 minute drive to larger out of town supermarkets if I wanted.
I moved a mile or so up the hill so still have that all 20 mins away walking and now can see a co-op, greggs and paper shop out of my window. That is aproximatley a 2 minute walk or 5 mins if you don't want to walk over a field. Still about the same time to drive to the bigger supermarkets. I find this about right for me.0 -
Ideally within 10 minutes walk of a local grocers and 10 minutes drive from a larger supermarket. I also like to be within walking distance of a pub and a range of take-aways.0

We moved last year, our old place was only a few mins away from a small shopping centre, a tesco, was on a bus route and had a park. The criteria we set when looking for our new place was that it must have a corner shop within a few mins walk, it must have a bus service and there must be a park for walking our dogs, we needed these things as my oh is getting on a bit and if he couldn't drive ( I don't drive) anymore then we would need all of these things, we found them plus it's a lot closer to our GP's which is also handy.0
