I was thinking more to get some rolls/ supplies etc when you can't drive if you're over the limit!

I've always lived in the country so never had the option

This is a very personal thing - ask ten people and you will get ten different answers.

Personally I walk 3 miles to the local Asda - but I have friends that have pizza delivered from a takeaway down the road!

Personally for me I like to be no more than 10 minutes walk from a shop. Ideally 5 minutes. I've grown up in a town though and that's what I'm used to. It would drive me potty having to drive out to get a pint of milk or something and with three small kids it's hard to keep stocked up in advance.

It was a real factor when we were looking for our house recently.
Mum to three little boys. Long time lurker!

Jumping on to the housing ladder - we've exchanged! Woop! Completion set for 15th July.

    15 - 20 minutes max.
  • For everyday basics then it has to be easy walking distance imo - so..yep....I guess 20 minutes max walking and I hope for less. I just cant be doing with having to spend much time on "essential maintenance" personally. Working on being able to get as much of my food as possible literally feet from my front door (ie from growing it in my garden).

Not quite so basic - say 20- 30 minutes walking.

Pretty much anything longer than that = I get it from Amazon. Except bigger items of furniture and vast majority of clothes = absolutely hours there and hours back on public transport (ie trips back to city I've come from say once or twice a year for an all-encompassing see everyone visit basically - but will buy my clothes and bigger household items whilst there).

Depends on the demographic (aka How wrinkly and creaky you are!).
I hate having to drive to a corner shop if I run out of bread, but when we worked, it was nice to live on a leafy estate 15 minutes walk from the nearest shops and rail-station as you'd pick up the odd bit of shopping on the commute back home. But a 40-minute round-walk foer a pint of milk when we retired was a PITA... especially in snow as the pavements on that estate didn't get cleared.

So, while still fit but before we get really creaky, we've moved to an equally nice place, 5-7 minutes from a decent neighbourhood centre and even closer to good bus stops; I save a mint in petrol, especially as we now qualify for a scrounger's bus pass.

    So that's my reply- under 60; 15 minutes. Over 75; 5-7 minutes.

In fact you could probably get an A-level in statistics if you could map that on a curve or table..?

    An hour.

More if I'm not barefoot, obviously. :)
