Before we had spreadable buttery spreads, I used to keep a hairdryer in the kitchen for softening a layer at the top of a block of butter.

Utterly Butterly is only £1 a kg at Home Bargains.
We had some really posh butter once, that posh in fact it was called buerre and that stuff was impossible to spread. I used to just wack it in the microwave for 30 seconds and then set it again in the fridge. Worked a treat :)

The way to deal with frigid butter is to whack it hard .....take it out of the fridge, get a wooden spoon - and spank the hell out of it! Something to do with thermal reaction or some other old twaddle ......

I buy a half (ok 250g) of butter, cut it in two, put half in the fridge and keep the other half in the butter dish in the breadbin! None of the clover/bertolli/engine grease rubbish for this 73year old (who weighs in at 11st 10lb!) and still walks 3 labs twice a day as well as working 4 mornings a week!

Kerrygold butter. Sliced up and a portion a day kept on the side. OMG it is just the business. For me anyway.

When I was in France recently I got Normandy salted butter. It was GAWJUS too.

But don't tell anyone, I just sprinkle a bit of Maldon Salt over the Kerrygold. Yum. Not always, but when I feel like it.

You can see that I observe the health police every second day, because they change their minds Every Second Day.

Anyway. Eat what you want in small portions. All will be well.

Evidence suggests that real butter is better for you than all these fancy margarines. Don't keep it in the fridge, though, or you'll find that you have to chisel lumps off it to make your morning toast.

I shave slices off the butter and lay them on the warm toast to melt a bit before spreading.
Spreadable butter just doesn't seem the same.

    Put your hands up.

What goes round, comes round! I have always, always, always, used butter - no synthetic grease for my family! And eggs - I've always bought eggs (2 doz a week when my family consisted of 4 children + 2 adults) now ...surprise surprise - eggs are good for you again!

I don't "do" frozen chips/pies/processed meals - never have done - always cooked from scratch (now its trendy "clean cooking" - never used jar sauces etc .....cheaper that way too!
