If I upgrade from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 (as I'm frequently being asked to do on screen), will I have to reinstall all my programs, documents, email accounts and messages etc from backup or will they all be transported smoothly from one system to the other? Also, about how long does it take to complete the upgrade? Any help or advice really appreciated.

You should back everything up as a precaution anyway. That said, all your files and programmes will be where they were....
Going from 8.1 to 10 is probably the easiest transition...Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

I did the upgrade from 8.1 to 10 a few weeks back with no hassle in about one hour and had no problems with all my info on the PC without backing up.OK I took a chance but as I did not have anything I could not quickly replace if needed so pleased with both the speed of upgrade and the final outcome :0)0

Depending on your system it's an hour or so. It runs in the background0

Rather than downgrade, go for a windows 7 upgrade!0

Mine took about 3 hours. Best to let it run and just walk away or do it overnight.
I held off for ages but initial impressions are good with it being more robust.0 -
The only thing you may need to do post-update is to find new drivers for some parts of your system.0

The reason they're offering 10 for free is because its so sh*t.... and they want all your personal info.0
