Finally found the details of the dehumidifier
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Meaco-Portable-Compact-Dehumidifier-DD8L/dp/B007X236NQ

However I don't remember it being nearly as expensive as this so I think it must have been a special or a discontinued model

I'm a believer that if you open your mind to possibilities and change then the future is more likely to be positive.
Many years ago after my relationship of 10 years went belly up and also I was transferred to a job I wasn't keen on, I surveyed my empty nest and decided the universe was telling me something. So I sold up/gave up everything and booked on a 7 month trans Africa trip with a bunch of complete strangers. I was no spring chicken and my next door neighbour actually said 'But you can't do that'! But I did and it turned out to be one of the best things I ever did. :)

This is my plan, if THS really does HTF and i find myself alone after the kids have left......

    How was it?
I wanna be in the room where it happens

After I retired in 1995 I decided I was going to do all the things I had wanted to do, but never had the time to do because of raising a family. so I went into adult education and started at the bottom and worked upwards.
I had left school at 14 with the only certificate to my name being one for growing a daffodil for the London Flower Lovers League :):):)

My first GCSE was English Language and I was so pleased to get an A+.

This gave me a taste for learning, and I then went on to achieve passes in Maths,History, Geography and Law. In 2007 I had to take a break for a year as I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer and after several ops and chemo and r/therapy I eventually went back to education to do a History degree .I also learned how to swim at 62 :) which was on my 'Things to do list' :)

I am now in my 70s and have never let age or disability stop me from doing anything.

My oldest friend and I did a 'Thelma and Louise' touring around the north east coast of the U.S.for three weeks to celebrate.

This latest uncertainty at the moment will pass, and I'm sure we will all sort our lives out.

Life is just so interesting to me and I love learning new skills, so being of the older generation I am sure 'prepping' will be no different to my normal 'frugalling' :):):)

    Onwards and upwards chums

I too am of the opinion that now will just be a small blip in the greater scheme of life. Life is there for the living and if now starts people thinking about how much it does cost to produce the food they eat and how to source good local ingredients then I am all for it.

Jackie I think it's only fair to say you have done all this while still raising a family because you look after your grandchildren every day after school. I would love to have your energy.

At 41 I was the oldest. I remember saying to a fellow traveller 'For goodness sake you are behaving like a teenager'. 'That's because I AM a teenager' he replied... :rotfl:
It was exciting and wild and annoying at times. If you are used to being an independent traveller, it can be frustrating travelling on someone elses schedule. But we got to see and do things we'd never have experienced on our own. After the trip, a few of us went on travelling. I only came back because I was broke. But 3 years after returning to the UK, I was back in Africa running the office for a British Aid project. And after that I managed a safari lodge in a Ugandan National Park.. Plus I had a romance with a hunky Aussie met on the original trip and made some lifelong friends. All thanks to that mad leap in the dark years back. ;)

Having received requests to close and open various threads, it seems i can't please everyone. (edited to add - i would love to be able to but just don't know how)

Can we all just post in the threads we like and leave other threads for others who appreciate them?

Hope this is ok. If anyone is unhappy with this please refer to the forum team

    Kindest regards, Zip

    Have a great day all.

    One more thought.....

I close this one and "you guys" move to it and call it something like "Not the preppers thread but the other one". Then both threads of conversation can continue, new people can join if they feel so inclined and i can link from this one to the new one... .

Let me know, it doesn't feel like something i should just do as i would hate to upset anyone but would like to try keep everyone happy. This is the best idea i can come up with

I've put what I think on the other thread as I went onto the wrong one :rotfl:

MrsMP - did you manage to catch the Headteacher today to find out more information?

JackieO - you are an inspiration and have made me re-think my situation. You do so much and I've sort of resigned myself to the scrap heap a bit because I can't walk very well.Bit ashamed of myself really :o

But just because I have to wear sensible footwear doesn't mean I have to be sensible does it? I'm going to work on re-branding my image :)

Going to see the new Abfab film tomorrow to pick up some tips:rotfl:
