Dodgy eBay Purchase

Hi,
I bought a newish MacBook costing £700 on ebay at the end of March. Two weeks ago, the laptop stopped being able to pick up wifi. It was sent away for diagnosis and the logicboard is faulty and will cost £500 to replace. Ebay says I'm not covered as it is outside of their one month cover but said PayPal should cover it. PayPal have said it doesn't come under their purchase protection. Trying very hard to talk to an actual person at paypal (which they make as hard as possible) - but can't understand how I can be sold a dodgy product and that not being covered under their six month protection.
Any advice greatly appreciated!
Thanks

Best post or get this moved to the ebay forum.

Edit: Although I can see in your other thread for this that you've been given the reasons why you're not covered by paypal.

Did you buy it from a business or private seller?
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Ebay Money Back Guarantee and Paypal Buyer Protection are not warranties. They are for claiming on when items don't turn up or aren't as described, not for when something goes wrong with an item after use.

Is the seller a business or private individual? Did you pay by Paypal balance, debit or credit card funded? Are you and the seller in the UK?

Actually this is better here. There is no assistance likely from Ebay or Paypal. Those with more detailed consumer knowledge on this board will be better helping.

As above, business or private seller will determine whether you have any consumer rights to fall back upon.

Also if it was a private seller, you have indicated that the WIFI did work for a few weeks so its quite likely they weren't aware / the fault didn't exist when they sold it to you.

Then if the goods were as described, you have no claim against the seller.

One of the risks of buying secondhand I'm afraid.

Did the seller pass on any outstanding manufacturer's guarantee - if that's even possible?

Then you have a problem. You have no rights against the seller unless the item was knowingly misdescribed, eg, they stated it was in full working order and at the time of sale it wasn't.

You state that the macbook was "newish", exactly how old is it, does it still have a manufacturer's warranty?
