Any good free Email software

I have free yahoo email account, MSN hotmail (now windows live hotmail) account and fastermail email account.

My problem is that outlook express cannot retrieve emails from yahoo and hotmail but can only send. Eprompter (stone age software) cannot retrieve email from hotmail but yahoo.
I am looking for an email software that can work on yahoo, hotmail and faster mail.
I’m using firefox as my default browser but still have IE7.
Any ideas please.

Thunderbird should be able to do it.

  • I use outlook express but it can't retrieve mails from yahoo and hotmail, but if it does??? can someone tell me how to configure it.

  • Edit
I stand corrected, I installed the extensions into Thunderbird and set it up for my free web accounts that require additional payment for pop3 access. Thunderird handles the mail fine thanks for the info.

I think that unless you have pop 3 access to your accounts non of the above will work. You normally need to pay to have pop 3 access, older free hotmail accounts still have this facility but new ones require a paid account.

I can receive my yahoo mail using their pop3 server (pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk) in Thunderbird and Outlook Express.

Sending works for both as well, using smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk on port 587.

There is info in yahoo mail help on how to set it up.

Don't use hotmail though, so not sure if the same is possible.

    From it's website:
POP Peeper is an email notifier that runs in your Windows task bar and alerts you when you have new email on your POP3, IMAP (with IDLE support), Hotmail\MSN\LiveMail, Yahoo, Mail.com, MyWay, Excite, Lycos.com, RediffMail, Juno and NetZero accounts. IMAP supports allows you to access AOL, AIM, Netscape and other services.

    To which I would add:
While it's ok for composing your emails too and has a little address book, PopPeeper is not ideal for adding attachments or storing your sent mail - rather, they get stored in your Yahoo etc. account.

yahoo yes, as per above. Hotmail can work, however is being phased out.

I'd suggest you go and get a gmail(.com) account, that will allow you to access it by pop3 and webmail.

I use Thunderbird, works with Hotmail and Yahoo with the aid of the extensions from this site: http://webmail.mozdev.org/

I'm not sure about fastermail though
