Was more wondering if they would lose the child premium for him.

O/p - you could ring the council & ask for a "what if" calculation x

Yep, that's what I would do, ask them how a 17 year old's part-time wage affects housing benefit, without giving any details at all, certainly not your or your mother's names. The other thing you could do is just not tell them you're working but then you could run the risk of being "shopped" by some helpful soul.

I can't tell you how refreshing it is to hear of someone your age who wants to work. Good on you. It is not just about the money. Having a part-time job teaches you skills you cannot learn any other way and will stand you in good stead when you begin full time work.

    Best of luck.

Not reporting it is a criminal offence- don't do that.

You are absolutely correct, I was not advocating criminal behaviour, merely mentioning a possibility. :D

KR, whatever you decide to do, you sound like a sensible person, perfectly capable of making up your own mind and I am not responsible in any way for your actions, OK? :D

Well done in getting out there and finding a part-time job - it's your money not your mum's.

Time for you to put a little into the household budget - £20 a week would be nice.

When I started working I gave mum my housekeeping - when I moved out I found she had saved it all up and I had a pleasant surprise cheque - thanks mum.

I have taken it upon myself to investigate a trifle. It had custard, jelly, these soggy, sponge things. OK, I'm messing about.

My local council does not take into account monies earned by people under 18 as, until you are legally an adult, you do not count as a non-dependent. Neither, it seems, do Manchester council, whose link I found online. For some reason, every council in the land seems to need a different website.

I asked if this rule applies across the board and was told, yes, it should. She did not sound absolutely sure, KR, so I suggest you contact your own council to be certain. I could not find a definitive answer online on either the Shelter or yougov sites but would be surprised if this is not a universal rule. I am sure you are far more internet-literate than I.

If your mother receives Child Tax Credits for you, this can affect housing benefit, it seems, but presumably she has dealt with all of that.

Please let us know how you get on.

    HTH, S.

The o/p is clearly way too sensible and honest to commit fraud. If they did intend to they would not have posted as they have.

What do the DWP have to do with anything? They do not pay HB, the local council does! Now who's giving wrong information?

The local council should be point of contact assuming it is not a Universal credit area -(where housing benefit payments are administered and paid by the dwp).
