No such thing as trust when it comes to spending money.

I would not have bought a Range Rover from Scotland to be honest as they tend to be more of a utility purchase.

And I would start looking up common issues as if it hasn't been maintained it likely to be a liability in the longer term

Doesn't matter. I have been to Scotland you know, being Scottish.

All over Scotland they don't have the premium attached that they do in say London. A mate bought the V10 diesel Toureg and it was not as expensive as I thought it would be.

That is why traders often buy 4x4s from Scotland and bring them down south.

I never mentioned mud I mentioned how they are perceived in the market.

I have driven a fair few miles in Range Rovers over the last couple of years. I like them, I can't afford one realistically at the moment. They do demand a premium down South though.

I would go for a 3.0tdv6 with the 8speed box to be honest not the older 2.7tdv6.

So you say you would not have bought it from Scotland, then go on to say they are a premium else where, and the dealers buy them in Scotland? Sorry, confused.

That isn't what I said, it was what you think said.

Just because dealers head to Scotland to buy a cheap turd to polish and sell for a Premium doesn't mean I want to head to Scotland to buy one.

They aren't held in the same esteem in Scotland in my experience and soon get serviced outside the Dealer Network, which may be fine for a Ford or a Kia.

But a Range Rover Sport? No thanks, you feel free to crack on though, I don't care.

The simple fact that the OPs Range Rover Sport had no History and it has so far not shown up on the dealer computer tells me it left Main Dealer servicing a long time ago.

Which would appear to confirm my entire point.

So the friend who knew loads about cars decided not to buy, but let you tick yourself up to the hilt for a dodgy Rangie?

    You need new mates, mate.

I've never heard of anyone buying a RR Sport up here for "utility". The only ones I've seen look like they've never been off road at all.

All the farmers have old Range Rovers, or use Defenders/Foutraks/L200's for the heavy work.

Cars tend to be cheaper up here because (away from Aberdeen) there's generally less demand. It can be cost effective for a London dealer (or buyer) to buy cars from Scotland and drive them back down, because of the price differential.

So I certainly wouldn't be put off by the fact it came from Scotland. However, unless you still have the ad or any written proof of a full service history, you've not got much of a chance in court, and you'd be best taking their settlement offer, if the missing service history actually makes much difference to the cost.

I'd be pretty confident it has had some servicing at some point, but that the keeper has lost the book or never bothered to get it stamped (my local garage would only stamp the book if you left it out so obviously they couldn't miss it, but everything was on the computer and they were happy to back-date them if required). If it's running well now, passed any kind of inspection and has been serviced, then I wouldn't be too concerned about it, but I'd be more interested in things like belts, or if there are any outstanding recalls.
