no service history

i bought a 2009 range rover sport back in nov 2015 sales man told me it had full service history, after about 2 weeks i realised no paperwork regarding the service history was in the folder so i went back to the dealer " o we havent got it at hand call back in a few weeks" ok i left it till after xmas went back in jan " sorry we cant find it " lie after lie and " sure you dont really need a service history" !! both the salesman and dealership owner finally admited there wasnt one. only thing is i cant prove they said it came with FSH and ive no proof that they admitted this:(

Sounds like you're knackered then. Tried a proper LR dealer to see if they can look up any history?

Potentially expensive lesson in checking everything before parting with cash. Never believe a word the salesman says until you've checked.

ouch, a friend and I had this discussion recently about how much value a FSH places on a vehicle, he reckoned it to be over 30% so on a car like that quite a sting.
Is it a local car? maybe it has history but was lost see if you can contact the local LR/RR dealer to see if it was serviced there.
Another thing that occurs to me is when my car was written off the instructions from the dealers was not to give any manuals to the man who collected the car, did you do HPI check on it?

Who was the previous owner on the V5C? If they are local, they might be able to help. Failing that, it probably got MOT'd fairly close to home.

Mine turned out to have no history either, despite claiming it did (they paperwork went missing, aparently), but an MOT reminder sticker from a car supermarket and a visit to the previous owner allowed me to piece it back together.

I don't follow. Has this only come up because it's being traded back into the same dealer? If so, it's crap, but they can only regard it as it is now; there's no SH.

It might be worth phoning car supermarkets service departments within maybe 20 miles of the last keepers post code.

no after months of being mugged of i told them id take them to court over the nonexsistent SH. to which they offered a trade-in price. but surely they misrepresented the sale voiding it. and i shouldnt be forced to trade with them or take a trade in price for a car that was overpriced to start with?

Its still the same car you bought originally, if your not happy with it now then try and return it and its not as described, you may need all the luck in the World though.

If you manage to get the history printout from the dealers then I would just keep it.

Have you done your own HPI check, I wouldn't trust the dealer at this point.

You've had the car for 8 months though, so they can't offer you what you paid.

I guess you could propose giving you the trade in price assuming a full history, which they may reject, and may result in you going through a lengthy legal battle to get them to honour. You could always take the no-SC trade in and take them to small claims for the difference.

Have you run any trade in quotes to see what the difference between the SH and no-SH prices are? If it's significant (I think it will be, it's an expensive car) then it really would be worth the legwork as it's almost guaranteed to have been serviced somewhere.

But in saying that, you've had it for 8 months now, so it's presumably not a total dog; if you assume it hasn't been serviced, and take care of any belts yourself, you'll hopefully have a good car and won't lose any money changing it.

Do you have any other historic bills that could indicate which garage the car was taken to? It's quite likely that if it had a mundane repair somewhere, that's the owners garage of choice for MOTs too.

You were told verbally that there was a service history.
BUT... You didn't get it in writing, you never saw the history, you were never given the history.

Unless you've seen it, touched it, held it - it doesn't exist. Even then, it might be faked.

Have you looked at the MOT mileage history on the certificate? I'm sure I'm not the only one wondering if the history went AWOL at the same time as the mileage was "adjusted"...
