How far do you commute to work?

I do either 35 miles/1hr30 (twice a week) or 70miles/2hr (once a week) each way by car. Not much difference between the M60 car park and the M1.
I go to the gym en route, tend to leave home between 6-6.30am and arrive at the office ready to start work at 9. Coming home, I'll leave between 5-5.30 and arrive home about 6.45-7.
Frequently I have to remind myself that the job is worth it. I do hope to move nearer to one of the offices but OH works in the opposite direction so there's a bit of a location triangle going on and we're in the best place time-wise really. I work from home twice a week which really helps.0 -
my job is about 6-7 miles away from me
(i live in east london & i work in the city)
i would work ANYWHERE in central london but that is it... I would not work probably no further than a 10 mile radius.0 -
im about a mile away from my office. its a pleasant walk on a nice day, but I do tend to drive most days as I would have meetings that I need to get to. I can leave the house at 7.55 and be at my desk with the kettle boiling at 8am.
Although Belfast is only 6 miles away, I would hate to work there as the traffic is horrendous at rush hour, the last mile of those 6 miles can take 15 mins alone.
Thanks to Happy MJ for those calcs, I hadn't even factored in tax and NI for the cost of paying for petrol, I was only considering the net cash value.Mortgage = [STRIKE]£113,495 (May 2009)[/STRIKE] £67462.74 Jun 20190 -

Assuming you're going from Maltby to Rotherham (according to your profile) that journey would be well worth considering switching to a car which would take about 30 minutes via the M1 including time to find a parking spot and walk to the office.
Think of it as buying an hour an day.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

It is up to you? Is the new job better long term?
Yes short term you will have less disposable income but if the long term prospects are better?
Also you have to factor in the traveling time. At the moment I work about 5 miles away from where I live but peak time it can take a good 30 mins.
Equally I once worked a good 1 & 1/2 hours away and while I loved loved the job after three years the traveling nearly killed me. I remember driving home so tried I fell asleep. - Thank god I did not hurt anyone or myself!!!Happiness, Health and Wealth in that order please!:A0
