I signed up on the Android app over a week ago, everything worked fine. Apart from the snazzy graphics consuming time, but that's what we often have to live with these days.

The improvement and refinement of any app depends on the quality of its developers, if they can do as well as Revolut then Atom has a future.

I'm ready to give Atom a chance and open a savings account, hopefully before their rates drop, but I haven't proceeded yet as I'm away from the UK and can't produce any address verification if they should ask for it...

What sort of verification is needed? My passport is expired unfortunately.

Name, DOB, address and then they asked me a series of MCQs. :D

Yes, but I don't have a utility bill or anything with me to verify my address by photo capture if they ask for it.

Presumably when the account is open they give you acc number qnd sort code to send funds to - do they give a limited time for doing this?

  • My wife received an e-mail today from Atom with the subject "Just a few more days at these rates" and the phrase "We'll be reducing our Fixed Saver rates shortly" in the body of the e-mail.

In readiness for the glut of Santander 123 money, I presume.

They'll ask questions to verify your identity in the form of multiple choice questions e.g. how long have you had an account with <bank>, which of these addresses have you lived at in the past, etc.

Yes, they give you a sort code and account number and you have 7 days to transfer funds across.

It really was a hassle-free process. Certainly the quickest savings account I've ever opened.

I feel a bit iffy about it, the fact that all I need to access it is a 6 digit code (presumably if face recognition and voice recording fails, that works). I know other apps have similar security numbers, but then they also have security measures for new payments etc.

And what's wrong with a couple of security questions? What happens if I forget my code and the 'biometrics' don't work?

EDIT: I see you need to use two forms of access (PIN, voice or face recognition) to do many tasks. Again, what happens if the biometrics don't work?

So, you've opened & funded a FR saver now? Are you assuming the rates will be the same in November when your chickens come home to roost?:p
