Cancelling Sky broadband query

I've been unsuccessful in getting a good retention deal with Sky after last year's great £6 for the year deal via MSE. I'm thinking of cancelling. My current deal runs out on the 6th July.

Does anyone know exactly how long the cancellation period lasts? I thought you had to give 30 days notice, so would have 30 days grace. I was told (via chat) that I only need to give 14 days notice.

An Advisor I spoke to said it was better to leave via my new provider because if I cancelled, it would put a stop on the account or something and would mean re-connections, possible engineers etc.

I would prefer to cancel (in the hope they offer a better deal than £5 off my broadband) but don't want to be left without broadband, or have it removed straightaway.

Can anyone advise, please?

Have a look on your account to see what they will offer. You answer some questions and they will give you a new price.

Yes it is best for the new provider to take care of it. It's how the system works now.

But as I have gone to virgin a cancelled mine around 14 days before the end. So I have to wait 14 days before anything will happen. They say my BB could take longer to disconnect (but it didn't :().

They have taken next months advanced charges :(

Yes I had the MSE excellent sky deal which has just come to and end.

One month ago, I logged into my account and pressed the buttons telling them I was going to leave because of cost, and I was offered BB for £2.50 (plus LR £17.40).

So the same as you, I doubt they will offer you any better.

    Thanks, I'll try that today

But as I have gone to virgin a cancelled mine around 14 days before the end.

When you had actually cancelled to go to Virgin, did they then offer you any further discount?

How long after cancelling did they actually disconnect your phone and broadband then?

They have taken next months advanced charges :(

Presumably you will get these credited back to you at some point

They were going to offer me a similar discount you were offered but I made it clear it was a speed issue not price, so they got on and cancelled it.

It was turned off 14 days after cancellation.

Just checked on my account (chose the moving to another provider option) and got the offer of broadband £2.50 per month for a year.

I didn't dare select the 'I want to cancel' option instead in case it went through

I might try live chat again (I get too flustered on the phone) but it is not looking hopeful :(

    Thank you for your input

I think I have to give just 14 days notice to cancel once my 12 month contract ends and goes on to a monthly rolling contract.

Does anyone know if you can 'return' to Sky during the 14 day period and stay on the rolling contract, without incurring any charges etc?

What's the issue? Why don't you select another provider ?

Have a look at TalkTalk. They are cheap for the first year.

I would but I am hoping to move this year so can't tie myself down to a new contract. I was with Talktalk before Sky. Basically I want to try and stay with Sky if possible without getting into a new contract.

I have seen others able to get reductions without a new contract, so know it is possible. I just need to get the costs down. I have been happy with Sky this last year.

Arh I see. Never known anyone get a discount without locking in for 12 months. It's how they can do the discount.

One option is to get a 4G SIM to wifi osprey which will be very useful also in your new house while waiting to be connected.

Otherwise you need to do the sums on £2.50 & 7.50 + LR and how many months to break even.

You were very lucky not to move while in sky's 12m mse deal. I think you have to pay the free stuff back !!!!

Could you point me toward the "moving to another provider" link please?

I too am in a similar position. My previous offer has expired so im now paying around £24pm for line plus BB. Have had a go on live chat but they are having onn of it ! They must have been told to toughen up !

Im thinking talktalk as they have a LLU presence in my exchange.

Keep hearing rumours about poor network but then i guess you only hear the bad stuff??

PS is ith worth retaining sky for skygo? ive never used it..is the basic skygo stuff worth having? i could plug it into my big tv..
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
