    - I'm quite a routine Person and hadn't fully realised just how random babies are I don't think!

You'd be surprised at how many of us get caught out like this! I think many of us today are so used to working and having a clear routine that we think that a baby will just slot into our schedule like some kind of diary appointment. It's quite a shock to realise that they don't work like that!

I always think of parenting manuals like cookery books. Nice to look at but in real life, you just can't follow the instructions exactly. (And even if you do, the results are nothing like the photos! :rotfl:)

Ha ha I like that analogy! Been reading that baby whisperer one and trying to get a bit of an eat, activity, sleep routine going on - we do alright in the mornings then it all goes a bit belly up after lunch, oh well!

Had a decent night last night anyway, he was in his bed next to me from about 10-2, then came and fed/ slept on me - was saying to the boyfriend I do t really know how much he's fed/ slept doing it like that because I sleep as well, but we came to the conclusion you don't see dogs and other animals timing how long a feed the babies have had, so can't be that bad a way!

As long as you are getting plenty of nappies and he's putting on weight I can't see a problem. I always worried about SID when she fell asleep on me when I was in a chair because I was inclined to fall asleep with her so would try keep myself awake but it's difficult with little to no sleep.

The thing is, co-sleeping if done properly (safely) can reduce the risk of SIDS in very young infants as their breathing and temperature is regulated by their Mum. Generally speaking though the risks of co-sleeping far outweigh these positives especially if you are a fidgety sleeper. Neither my wife or I fidget in our sleep and we had our little one co-sleep with us from newborn to around 5-6 months old because quite frankly we got exhausted with the constant battle to get him in his crib. I know some people frown on this but we did research and made sure it was as safe as possible and he slept so much better.

He does now sleep in his own room though (hooray) :D

Thanks he is putting on weight and has plenty of et nappies so think all seems alright on that front. We are doing baby massage today - interested to see if that helps him settle at all, if he's anything like me he will love it

As with any baby book, don't follow this one to the letter. We read this one, took on board some useful ideas, and ignored the rest. When you have an overtired baby (or mummy) sometimes boobing them to sleep is far better than saying 'nope, activity comes after food'.

'Shush pat' was no use to us, but the dream feed was great. And please don't worry if your child takes a while to 'sleep through'. Some children do it early on, some when they're at school, and some people never do it. I worried about my son's sleeping, until I realised this, then I was able to stop worrying, which saved me a whole lot of stress.
If having different experiences, thoughts and ideas to you, or having an opinion that you don't understand, makes me a troll, then I am proud to be a 100% crying, talking, sleeping, walking, living Troll. :hello:
