I suspect that the advance line rental option was selected when the application was made.
The women on the phone insisted that it was on the letter they sent, but nothing, just says £16pm line rental.
Told me it was tough luck and we'd signed a contract, and we'd have to take it up with the post office branch.
So overcharged massive amount, and on a useless tariff, proper disaster that the post office have washed their hands of, only real option is to switch provider and use court to reclaim the £180 odd"Love you Dave Brooker! x"

Stop saying its a disaster !
Anyway you are now in a 12/18 month contract, so you can't switch unless you want to pay twice.
I recommend you be polite, go to the branch you signed up and am I'm sure it can be resolved if you are polite.0 -
The Post Office service is now provided by TalkTalk.0

Subsequent charges will be zero, if no calls are made.0 -

You have not been massively overcharged; just charged a year in advance, which is how you get to pay only £16/month for the line.
Why is the tariff useless ?
As has been said, if you cancel you will be liable for cancellation fees to cover the full 18 months, besides which, the only amount not accounted for is £7.50.0 -
But it costs £16 a month for the line rental if you pay it monthly, and were not on the tariff we asked for"Love you Dave Brooker! x"

What tariff did you ask for and do you have evidence of costs for this tariff .
You are saying its £16 pm plus £180 .Have you actually paid this as £180 Plus £16 .0 -

So I guess you signed a paper contract in the PO branch.
To win in court, you would need to show that on the balance of probabilities there was misrepresentation or a breach of contract.
If you actually signed a paper contract agreeing to pay £182.45, it may be difficult to persuade a court to find in your favour.
(If the paper contract you signed doesn't say £182.45 - I would think the PO branch would back down immediately anyway.)
Do you have a copy of the contract?0 -
There was no mention of any one off payment on either the post office branch paperwork, or the welcome pace, turns out rather than being free unlimited broadband, we were put on £5 per month light user broadband, thus we paid 12 months worth of line rental, £7.95 for the router and £5"Love you Dave Brooker! x"
