2002 Ford focus water pump seized up, repair or scrap car?

The serpentine belt snapped on my focus today, it appears that this has been caused by the water pump seizing up. I am guessing it will need a new water pump and this looks too complex for me to repair myself after looking at my Haynes manual.
The car has 122500 miles on it, 1 month left on the MOT and was in daily use before this happened.
I am thinking it won't be economical to repair so it will probably be time to say goodbye to this car. What do you think?

Depends how rich you are really, generally the cheapest option is to go for a repair.
What sort of budget have you for a newer car?0 -
Quoted £141 recently to replace pump inc.0

I might have a go at fixing/replacing it myself as the car is probably not worth much now and it will probably need work for the MOT as had a few advisories last time. If i replace the car will be looking at spending no more than two grand for a reliable economical runabout, ideally more economical than the focus.0

If your budget is just 2k it will be almost 'pot luck' on the reliability stakes whereas if you spend a few hundred on your existing car you will at least know it's history etc.
I would be repairing.0 -
I replaced cam belt & water pump on my car last year, it wasn't too hard & was a lot cheaper than taking it to a garage.
There are lots of tutorials on You Tube, have a go, you have nothing to lose & it could be good practice for the future.0 -

What an absolute load of rubbish.
There is loads of cars out there for a less than half of that which would be reliable cars!
Saying its "pot luck" on reliability on a £2k car is nonsense!0 -

The OP has a 2k budget for a 'reliable, economical' car, thats what a lot of people are looking for, I agree there are a lot of them out there but there are also lots of them at that price point that'll be money pits.
If the OP thinks he is good enough to spot a good 'un then 'go for it' personally I would still go for the repair on his existing.0 -
Fixed that for you
"What correct advice.
There is loads of cars out there for a less than half of that which COULD be reliable cars!
Saying its "pot luck" on reliability on a £2k car is correct! "0 -

So why did you basically say the opposite on a different thread?
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=69173535&postcount=16Yet instead people suggest spending £££s of pounds buying another car which may or may not need work - who knows! Well you will once you've bought it and drove it for a few weeks just to have to spend money on fixing it anyway.0 -
Which Focus engine are we talking about?0
