  • Just wanted to mention that existing customers of Plusnet's internet have had their service slowed down.

I was having issues and contacted plusnet about my upload speed (which shouldn't affect most people much) it had been cut from 10mbps to 2mbps without warning. I use my internet to transfer files for business purposes so this does affect my usage greatly.

The tech guy was able change my connection back to normal after complaining. But this change has caused more problems than it should have, streaming content on netflix and iplayer has been troublesome since the change although browsing hasn't been affected.

Apparently the changes have come from BT who provides their service who have demanded that they only have 2mbps upload speeds on their 40/02mbps fibre service and 80/10mbps download/upload on their unlimited fibre service. These speeds used to be 40/10 and 80/20

Does this apply to everyone? My price hasn't changed in 6 years and I've never contacted them about the price. Are there some customers, like me, who just never have their price increased? I guess it's because I'm on an old, cheap package (I have unlimited internet).

Well, that saves me waiting until November to jump ship then. With the cashback and the 1 year free internet I got through MSE, I can't imagine they've made any money off me!
Now, where to jump to next...

Thanks for mentioning this, just checked and the same has happened to me. Luckily upload speed isn't as important to me but if this is going to be combined with an increased bill I'll be looking elsewhere, waiting on the email/letters now.

It's worth pointing out if you're an Unlimited Fibre Extra customer (like myself) your line rate is still 'up to' 80/20.
It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.

Not sure about any 80/10 package. Certainly my own Fibre Extra still exceeds 10Mbps up with about 17Mbps as it always was.

What happened was PN changed from offering 40/10 to offering 40/2 but provisioned new customers who should have got 40/2 with 40/10 and now they are correcting that. IMO they should have just left existing customers as they were and just corrected their new customer provisioning.

There are some who had 40/20 before the change complaining of downgrades but I suspect they took retention deals so PN regard them as new customers given 40/10 in error.
  • What happens with my line rental saver - I've paid upfront for a year to save money on the line rental - will I get a pro-rata refund if I leave due to these price rises?

Has anybody attempted to haggle yet? I've been looking at the current BT deals, and after the reduced price, the £100 Mastercard and Quidco's £140 cashback, I'd basically be saving £300 off the cost of what I'm currently paying PN for the year.

Can't imagine they'd be able to get anywhere close to matching that.
  • I rang today. They offered fibre for £11 per month plus line rental but my existing deal is better (agreed last year), so he said I was better switching!
