As its a secret ballot how do you know? I am over 60 and voted remain, husband will shortly be 70 and he voted remain, I have a relative in their 80s who voted remain.

The polls don't always get it right, in fact they got the result of the referendum wrong and they might well have got the age of voters wrong as well.

The polls don't always get it right but they mostly get close. In this case the margins indicating preference by age are so large that they aren't really disputable.

But still ignores the turnout figure for that demographic.

I'm in my mid 50's and I voted remain, my husband is in his mid 60's and voted remain.

But, from online forums I belong to, where the other contributers are mostly 50+, I feel I'm very much in the minority, so I do think it is correct to say that more older people voted Leave.

But I do get naffed off if people assume I voted Leave, just because of my age.

Because that is orthogonal to the point.

It's the Facebook generation, whining until they get their way, because Facebook and online petitions make it easy for them to do.

You'd have thought they'd be over it by now .... swiping on Tindr or catching up with the Kardashians instead.

    How is it?

If only 10 18-24 year olds bothered to vote but all of them voted Remain it'd be a 100% vote for remain, but the percentage figure is abstract, it needs context to be of any use and in this circumstance the context is that only 36% of all 18-24 year olds bothered to vote. So instead of saying 75% voted to Remain, people should be saying 75% of the 36% that voted.

    Not even half!!!

Come on, if they want to pretend like they're bothered now they should have been bothered in the first place. Perhaps this will have taught them a valuable lesson.

    36% turn out in 18 to 24s

There are about the same number of people between 18 and 35 as there are people over 55 and let's not forget 40% of those over 55 voted remain.

How many of those 40% are expats retired abroad?

No idea just used UK population figures on Wiki. Point is that if turnout was similar in younger voters as older we would not be leaving. I voted remain can I blame the younger generation for making my vote ineffective.

Perhaps those young people are the ones not feeling the benefit of EU membership. Hence the complete disinterest in voting. As makes no difference to them either way.
