Brussels issued precisely zero "directives to business in the 3 years to October 2013" or during any year prior to 2013.

An EU directive is a type of EU law addressed to member states which articulates some general aims (e.g. to increase recycling of electronic goods) and leaves the details up to member states to implement using their own national law.

I don't think we can easily say that the turning point was on a given date.

However I do think that the signs have been there for a long time. There were many who saw Thatcher as wrecking the working class, but blame must also lay at Labour's door. Remember when one voter dared to speak about their concerns over immigration and got called a bigot by Gordon Brown? That too was a crucial point. That was when the white working class realised Labour no longer had its back.

A stupid poll if ever I have seen one, Lets all play the blame game to wallow in self pity a bit more as to our sorry lives, Seriously this sort of thing does my nut in and for the life of me I really do not understand why people bang on so much about they done this and they done that, Reminds me of the school playground mentality.

The majority of people arent qualified to make important decisions.

You might as well ask the plebs about thermal analysis of thrust chambers with combined cooling and its effect on nozzle performance in rocket propulsion technology.

There is a time and place for referendums, for example when New Zealand let its hoi polloi decide on the design of the NZ flag.

Anyway, what's done is done. It's time for the teethless brexit voting inbreds to learn it's not a good idea to bite the hand that feeds you. :)
Don't blame me, I voted Remain.

Yet another ill mannered nasty individual with a total disrespect for others just because you do not like the way people have voted, You are not a nice person and to be honest as I have said about others in the past a forum seems the last place for people like you to be on with comments like the one above.

    This sort of thing ^

An off the cuff 'witty' quip that will get mutters of agreement from a portion of the population. But what do you actually mean?

Given the relative success of free market capitalism across the globe vs socialist approaches - would you prefer we were still mining coal?

What about the long lasting economic damage caused by the blair brown welfare state - billions still being paid out to people not to work. What lasting benefit has that provided?

I suspect that without Thatcher there is no way many would enjoy the benefits, pensions and NHS they do today as UK PLC would have gone the way of Greece many years ago.

Of course I'm probably part of the elite (fulltime working 30 something single parent of one in 2 bed semi living in north england)

You forget that it was the Thatcher government which encouraged thousands of people, laid off after the demise of mining and other heavy industry, to claim sickness benefits and so massage the unemployment figures.

And yes, I for one who prefer to see people work (in mines or anywhere else) rather than be paid to do nothing as they are now.

why not add an extra population:

'Less ordinary' who unfortunately make the bulk of the voters. Anyone who religiously read the tabloids, The Sun, The Daily Mail, The Daily Mirror e.t.c and who believed the NHS would be getting 350 Mil for leaving EU lol

No, what he is doing is called telling the truth based on facts.

It is a concept quite unfamiliar to the leave campaign who had only hyperbole, soundbites and outright lies. I do believe it is time to...

the answer is both, the Brexit was an economic decision, and the arguments from both sides were all economic. The problem is 95% of the voting populace have little or no understanding of economics, and the powers that be made no proper attempt to address this issue, instead of explaining the facts in an easy to understand manner, they both went down the fear route, meaning most voters were fed a pack of lies, or extremely questionable projections, using their place in society to support their claims

My wifes friend voted in as she believed this would keep her mortgage cheap (due to rates not rising), not understanding how or why interest rates rise, and now being happy there is talk of a rate cut - probably not a reason to vote either way imo, but that was her reason - and now saying she regrets her vote in
