    You mean mining coal in a job you start from leaving school until you retire verses a zero-hour contract at Sports Direct where you turn up at the start of your shift and told if your needed or should go home unpaid. Hmmm.

    So the self-centred British culture that looks out for what they can get themselves and no sense of community has nothing to do with Thatcherism? The Blair/Brown years of welfare promotion only compounded the situation. Work-shy populous who think its their right to claim everything.

    So you think jobs should be guaranteed for life from age 16? Regardless of global economic factors and environmental / technological advancements. Dear god please explain your vision of the UK economy where we are still mass mining coal.

    Re sports direct - if this company and its practices are so abhorrent how come it is still trading. Surely the people would revolt and gladly pay many pounds more for their lonsdale trackies in a shop that guarantees jobs for life and final salary pension schemes. You should start such a business and give all thgthge profits to charity.

    I can't vote as I believe both statements are true and not mutually exclusive.

    But if the elite weren't out of touch we wouldn't have had the referendum.

    This should be the test of elite vs ordinary:

    A person is given 5million pounds. They can either;

    A) keep it
    B) give it to their local hospital

    Of course the elite would all keep it because all they are interested in is themselves . the ordinary people, well of course we know what they would do.

    Which laws were unnecessary?

    Brussels issued 3,589 laws and directives to business in the 3 years to October 2013.

    I think the rot started to set in with Spencer Perceval.

    Can you give some examples of the many unnecessary EU laws?

    The one where we're not allowed to have vacuum cleaners with a motor more than 1600W. If we want to reduce energy consumption, reducing the size of the EU parliament and ending the monthly travelling circus between Strasbourg and Brussels would have been more effective.

    Brussels issued precisely zero "directives to business in the 3 years to October 2013" or during any year prior to 2013.

    An EU directive is a type of EU law addressed to member states which articulates some general aims (e.g. to increase recycling of electronic goods) and leaves the details up to member states to implement using their own national law.
