After privatization of energy I used to change supplier regularly. Every time I changed one of the suppliers would steal money from me. I got so fed up of sorting it out that I just couldn't be bothered changing anymore. I have just changed again. The supplier I was leaving sent me a final bill. You are in debit by £x. We will take a final payment of £x + nearly £100. I just phoned them up. 'Why are you charging £x+100 instead of £x. Sorry it's a mistake I can't explain. We will charge you £x. This must be normal behaviour as I have had it every time. Surely some-one should be able to stop corporate theft like this.

    This was the original post.

I am not sure why it was posted. The OP has gained nothing. Various posters have offered possible explanations relating to meter reading validation processes on switching.Others have discussed rules around Direct Debits. The OP seems immune to any explanation still maintaining theft is occurring. No thanks are offered for their input. My own input and questions are met with 'you work to protect the industry.' :D

No Supplier/s are named. No evidence is to be produced.

    Right said Fred.

I was writing merely to warn people about the way energy companies make errors in their favour (theft in my book) especially around the switching process. People ask me if it is worth switching gas and electricity suppliers. I tell them it's a two stage process. Finding a better deal is easy. This will lead to savings. Working out the loss from switching is more difficult. Most people aren't capable or can't be bothered to analyse their bills. Previously the errors have been hidden in the billing. I just could not believe how blatant this was.
Imagine buying a shopping basket and going to the checkout. That's £10 then. Just put in your card and we'll take £20 off. Most people would query why £20 was taken for £10 of shopping.
This is the same thing however hidden after a complex statement of meter readings, conversion factors, etc, etc. This time all the readings etc were correct. It was just at the end they said. OK you owe us £100 we will take £200 out of your account.
I was trying to warn other people that the errors in their favour of energy companies have no boundaries.
