Involved in a car crash today. Am I at fault?

I had stopped well before I saw the car approaching towards me. A good 3-4 car lengths.Retrogamer wrote: »How long had you stopped for when the car collided with you?0 -
Thank you for all the replies. I have an update. I took my car out today to the shops and my wheel alignment is completely off. The steering wheel is 45 degrees to the right for the car to go in a straight line! This means the other party must have hit my front right tyre first (as it was pointing out) which explains the scratch on his rear passenger side door. I had a look at the pic and see 2 scuffs on the front of his car. How can I add pictures here to show you all?0

I would find it disappointing if you weren't 100% to blame.
I can't grasp why you think a car traveling on the main carriageway should stop just because your indicator was on. It was for you to look behind taking note of the speed of the approaching car and pull out when it is safe to do so.0 -
It was not a main carriage way. It was a residential road with a speed limit of 30mph. The road had a lot of parked cars so it would be unsafe to even be travelling at 30mph on such a roadI would find it disappointing if you weren't 100% to blame.

That doesn't sound like "well before" to me.
Average car length for a saloon type car is approx 4.5 meters.
Cars travelling at 20mph cover 9 meters per second.
So if they were driving at 20mph and it was 4 large cars (best case scenario) then they only have 2 seconds to react to you pulling out.
If they were travelling at 30mph and it was 3 large cars, then only about 1 second to react.
It doesn't sound like you gave the other driver enough time to react to you pulling out. If you had pulled out, stopped and the car hit you 5 seconds or so later then i'd have said they had ample time to react but it appears by your own admissions of information they wouldn't have. All your base are belong to us.0 -
I don't think that changes the circumstances because my car was in the same position (edged out) and stationary before I saw the other party in my wing mirror. Surely this suggests that the other driver must have seen me well before I saw him in my wing mirror and that he took a chance.Retrogamer wrote: »That doesn't sound like "well before" to me.
