OP, it sounds like your neighbour makes plenty of noise themselves so I'd just go about your normal routine and try not to even think about it. Otherwise you'll end up scared to do anything at home. I know what that's like, having moved from an isolated farmhouse to a terraced house. At the start, I was scared to use my electric toothbrush, or flush the loo at night.
You're trying to be kind and considerate, but sometimes others don't reciprocate. Your neighbour probably hasn't even thought about what noise they make. Perhaps it's only because you asked them that they mentioned anything at all.0 -
Living in flats there needs to be some give and take. Fair enough your neighbour has asked you not to vacuum so late and to turn your music down but that goes both ways so if you mention that his DIY starts too early or you'd like a wee bit of advance warning before he does his DIY that's fair enough too. There's not much you can do about crying babies though. If your neighbour is prepared to curb his noise then I wouldn't go out my way to reduce my noise.0

When I was quite young, we went with my parents to view a house for sale, on a Sunday Morning, and there was a bloke across the road, mowing the lawn in a suit.
This was reason enough for my mother to decide this particular cul-de-sac was not for her.
Mowing on a sunday, and in a suit. How very dare you!0
