Decent over-ear headphones?

Options
Hi all,

On the lookout for some half decent over the ear type headphones, mainly for pure music listening, not fussed on wireless/bluetooth ones, cable is fine.

Something about the 'beats' brand I'm not so sure on - are they really all they are cracked up to be?

Budget of say £100 - £200+ just for a half decent pair.

Anyone got any recommendations!? Cheers.

I love my Koss Pro4AA that I bought in 1977. Amazed they still make them. Quality sound. Can't imagine that they're still considered a best buy after all these years though.

It find it kinda depends on your tastes, each has a certain "feel" which you get used to after a while.

Personally I like the Sennheiser hi-fi range but the momentum is a good compromise between hifi and style.

Depends very much on what type of sound you prefer and the music you listen to but as a starter the following less than £200 over-the-ear headphones came out top in the latest Which? Magazine headphone review........

Sennheiser Urbanite XL at around £100
Audio Technica ATH-MSR7 at around £159

Beats are a fashion accessory, not a proper piece of HiFi

Choose from Audio-Technica, Beyer Dynamic, Sennheiser, Koss, and established names like these.

I have a pair of Beyers, and a pair of Sennheisers that were bought in the 1980s and are still going strong.

Sorry for the late reply chaps, but I've been taking my time trying on pairs everywhere. Today, I tried on most available in John Lewis, irrespective of price....

For me, the Bose Quietcomfort 25's seemed perfect. Not cheap at £250 however a quick look online says they can be had for £200 ?

They seem to get ridiculously good reviews everywhere too, and are noise cancelling which may really help me on a plane... win win! Think I will go for them!

No highs, no lows, must be Bose.
I shot a vein in my neck and coughed up a Quaalude.

If you're a brand junkie. You're paying for the name, and a product that has not advanced in years. That's not to say they're not a high quality product, but they're certainly not the best in the market any longer.

Hmmmm.. I'm certainly no brand junkie, i.e Beats by Dre don't do it for me, Bose scream high quality and are definitely one of the bigger players in audio quality for good reason, anyway, they fitted me the best over any of the others, look nice and plain, and should do the job just fine, that's what it comes down to at the end of the day, comfort!

Some of the Seinhei - however you spell it ones, were hideous.... god knows who designed them, so uncomfy on my head!

The Bose ones feel snug and comfy, and not fat either quite slim-lined, well impressed.

What are the other brands you think could be rivals ? I've heard AKG are excellent, in terms of noise cancelling ability though not too sure there's much else?

    Cheers
