My wife is a non-EU citizen, and as such it was a complete nightmare for her to get into the country and to get indefinite leave to remain.

But what makes you think it'll be any easier from now on for non-EU citizens to get IRL? Many people who voted Leave did so because they are against immigration full stop, regardless of where from...

There was even guy on C4 I think who basically said that he thought that free movement within Europe was fair enough but he voted Leave to stop people from Africa and everywhere else from getting in.

Right now, there's no-one at the helm of he country and no plan in place...

How can people say they feel robbed of their vote because of the 350m claim? It was inaccurate (and there were inaccuracies/wrongs on both sides) and it was shown as such several weeks ago. If people didn't watch the debates and make their own judgement on all claims/research them on the internet or whatever before casting their vote, that's their problem.

    The UK is not alone.
Hungary's prime minister says the issue of immigration and how the British "can keep their island" determined the vote on Britain leaving the European Union.

Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who says the ideal number of migrants entering Hungary is "zero," said Friday on state radio that the biggest lesson of the UK vote is that Brussels "must hear the voice of the people."

Orban said that Hungary is in the EU because "we believe in a strong Europe, but Europe is strong only if it can give solutions which make it stronger ... to significant problems like migration."

Oh dear lord... they want to do it again? It's not a computer game, can't reset and start again. You've made your bed, now lie in it.

It seems there is a good argument as to why multiple referendums, or structured discussions with the public, are actually useful.

I think that if you ask a poor question then you should be prepared for a poor answer.

The surprise results reveal one thing : the Westminster political establishment are not really that in touch with sentiment out in the regions.

It would be easier if you could ask people direct questions.

Things like, do you like migrants? does it change your view if they bring money? why don't you like migrants? are you consistent in your attitude to migrants?

But no, we are not allowed to ask people direct questions, in case we might not like the answers. Instead, it's much more comforting to talk about multi-culturalism as a cure all.

Simply change the word 'migrant' to 'expat' and you'll probably get a different answer ;)

Of course...and here's the rub. People are gloriously inconsistent.

There are inconsistent attitudes between new migrants and those from traditional locations like India or Pakistan.

I have spent much of my working career with Indian and Chinese workers; so my experience probably biases my view.

many voters are/were a shambles which is why we have representative democracy rather than direct democracy.

One I heard today was my local Asian corner shop worker. A woman in her late 20s or early 30s who voted out. Her reasoning was along the lines of 'why should Europeans be able to come here so easily it was hell bringing my husband over were all humans'. !!!!!! seriously !!!!!! it doesn't even make sense. A migrant who very recently bought over another migrant voting out because she is annoyed that another group of migrants dont have it as hard?? Worst part of it is that I have spoken to this person a few times and she didn't seem all that dim until today!

Also clearly the vote remain turned out less I personally know 3 strong vote in who did not vote (they had to go tend to a sudden death) so were away from the local polling station on the day

The fact that you don`t quite get her logic is the reason you didn`t see this coming.
