Treat others the way you want to be treated....

Or is it treat others the way you think they want to be treated?

The reason I'm asking the question is due someone at work opening a door and letting the person behind walk through the door first.

The person in question spoke in a harsh loud tone saying “I can open the door myself; if I wanted you to open it for me I would've asked. I'm not an invalid".

I felt really embarrassed for the person and to be honest I have and still would open doors and let people in first, but since hearing the person in question get annoyed at someone being kind and having manners I won't hold the door for that individual.
So basically, if you were in the same situation what would you do and how would you respond to what they said?
It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun

It depends on the personalities involved... it can be annoying, or embarrassing, if somebody opens a door for you when you don't need them to. Opening it, going through, then holding it for them's acceptable ... to hold/wait for them can have lots of hidden agendas.

I would say the person who opened the door is a lot more well mannered than the person who walked through. We cant get it right every time but manners cost nothing.

I wouldn't let their bad manners impinge upon my good manners.

In a really sarcastic voice, I'd say "I was trying to be polite."

Sorry, but I was using my inherent good manners, please don't worry, it won't happen again.

I'd continue to open the doors for others, and just not bother for that person, they've rudely made their opinion clear, so sod them. I wouldnt go as far as letting it slam in their face though, however tempting that may be :rotfl:

I'd tell them to wind their neck in and stop being so damn rude.

Wow rude. Was the person who was rude a man or woman?

    What was their age?

I have never had that reaction from anyone! I have been ignored a few times and not got thanks, but THAT has never happened!

Good manners are automatic for some, as is rudeness for others.

The response was ungracious at the very least.
