My engagement ceremony is in August.

    What do you think?

I think she might say no when she realises how little you listen to her or involve her in major life events.

It is necessary to keep a track on money and be judicious, but when it's about picking an engagement ring be more kind towards yourself and go for bigger and brighter one.

Enough so that she knows you are serious but not so much as it leaves a hole in your pocket when she leaves you for your best mate.

If his woman 'leaves him for his best mate,' because she doesn't think he's spent enough on her engagement ring; I would say he was WELL rid of her!

That was invented by De Beers, who have a near monopoly on diamond trading, to maximise their profits.

I don't think she should know how much the ring is worth, find a ring you like (and you think she will like too) and go from there. If you want her to chose the ring then I would ask her to pic some photos out etc. Buying a ring and telling her it cost xyz isn't classy to me.

I find it odd when females tell their friends 'oooo my ring cost so much', why on earth would you say....

You need to know the value in order to insure it. If it's even half-way decent then it will also need to be revalued every 3 years, which also costs and is typically a percentage of its value.

My OH chose my engagement ring and I love it. I don't think it was 2 months pay but this was 34 years ago! Personally I would listen to your fianc!. There will be more than enough for you to pay out for when you get married. Also never heard of an engagement ceremony. That sounds weird.

I would have thought most people buying the ring would insure an expensive ring. Mine was given to me insured for a couple of years. It was by chance I found the insurance details and saw what it cost.
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

It doesn't really matter what our opinion is, what do you think your fiancee-to-be will think of the ring?

Do you have a specific reason for not wanting to include your fiancee-to-be in the choice of engagement ring?

First, in my culture, we have a ceremony like a mini marriage for the engagement. It's a custom.

I later thought that I will buy a simple diamond ring. I guess this design will be good. <snip>. When I was browsing diamond jewelers, I came across this one. It's half the budget and looks pretty. It has small stones tapering up the round center stone.

Of course, the remaining cash can be added to the honeymoon expense.
    What's your opinion?

    It's priced in USD's.....

    Nice attempt at SPAM....

The daft thing is that, as soon as you step outside the jewellers, the £2k ring is likely to worth less than £1k.

    It's jewellery, not a car!

Maybe it's tradition in his culture... ;)

For the record, I find the 'you must spend 2 months salary' thing a load of old baloney, and something the jewellery sellers tried to force on people to make their companies some money!
Proud to have lost over 3 stone (45 pounds,) in the past year! :j Now a size 14!

I spent £350 on mine and she loves it! And we're now engaged.
