How much to spend for engagement ring?

Should I spend $3000 for the engagement ring?
My engagement ceremony is in August. It's a small ceremony followed by lunch, with close family and friends. I make the ring a surprise for her. I'm planning to get a diamond ring in a budget of $3000. But she has been telling me don't make it too expensive. Wouldn't girls love expensive jewelry?
What do you think?

Maybe take notice of what your fiance thinks and not what you think 'girls' want.
Also, ask on a Canadian site for more relevant information if you really need a bunch of strangers to validate your spending choices0 -

Personally I'd rather spend the money on a honeymoon.0

Well, if it's a 2 carat IF (internally flawless) colour D (the best), I'd snatch their hand off 'cos it's a bargain.Should I spend $3000 for the engagement ring?
I don't think random strangers can say if you should spend x amount without knowing what you have in mind and what relevance the sum you're thinking of has to your financial circumstances.
Personally, I would want to choose my own ring (with my partner) as I'm going to be the one wearing it.My engagement ceremony is in August. I'd listen to what she's telling you.But she has been telling me don't make it too expensive. Wouldn't girls love expensive jewelry?
No, not all girls love expensive jewellery.
Some 'girls' don't like jewellery at all.
How well do you know your fiance-to-be?
Don't you know if she likes 'expensive jewellery'?
If you don't even know that fact about her, I would strongly suggest you don't buy a ring as a surprise - unless you can take it back for a full refund.0 -

I would take any number of Canadian $$$$ you've got at 40p to the $ (wholesale rate is 53p and retail rates are about 50p).:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

I spent £125 on a ring for the other half. She wasn't bothered about diamonds and so forth, she wanted a ring from me.
It's not always about the cost.0
