Starbucks pricing board no correct

So I've been visiting Starbucks nearest my work place and always pay with contactless blindly ignoring the price (I know, I know! From now on I will be paying more attention!!). Today I used cash and realised they have been charging me 10p more than the price listed on the board.

When I challenged the employee behind the till he shrugged his shoulders and told me the board was wrong and has been like that for a while.

I want to make a complaint but not sure what I should be saying? Any advice out there for a newbie? I don't feel this is right!

PM me with your postal address and I'll send you £1 to cover 10x over-priced coffees. I'll even chuck in the postage costs free of charge.

Hopefully that closes the case of the "10p overcharge" complaint which has just been submitted to the internet :)

EDIT: In fairness I can see why you are raging. But is it really worth it? The coffee is massively overpriced as it is! No idea why anyone would buy one from Starbucks to begin with! You are *probably* entitled to a refund, but it would be interesting to discuss the contactless payment method and whether you were given a quotation at the point of sale (not just the board) and accepted it Did the screen show £x or did the person say £x? Because I can't fully believe that you'd blindly process a contactless payment (which goes up to £30 if I recall?) without checking the cost? And if you aren't checking the cost then come to daytonabucks! I'll do a mocha soy latte with caramel for £1 and charge you £29.99 on contactless! Then I'll just vanish :) !!!!!! :D

Prices can be wrong on signs and although it's a nuisance it's not going to entitle you to a refund. If your bothered that much ask for it to be updated and if not contact trading standards,

What you do have to pay is what your charged, by paying it your agreeing to it. The time to complain is before you pay not after, it's your fault for not looking at what your paying.

I actually suspect that OP has a point.... they were quoted a price on the board and decided to buy based on that price. You can't really apply a greater price at the point of sale if you haven't quoted it! That's a bit dishonest! Plus, the cashier could have made a mistake when entering the amount into the machine.

But OP was silly for accepting the transaction without checking the charging amount. It could have been much worse (as daytonabucks demonstrated).

Also starbucks is over-priced tosh! If you are over-paying for coffee then I can't believe you'd go anal over 10p, but that's an opinion.

For 10p I can't recommend wasting any time. Even "but its the principle" seems a bit weak in the face of a 10p overcharge!

Nevertheless, it is always worth sending in a letter to head office (with pictures if possible). They may give a free cup of coffee or something (which may offset the extortionate cost to start with :D).

So when you realised they were charging you 10p more did you refuse to pay that and walk away without your drink?.

If you did pay up and then even though it's wrong in principle you don't have much to complain about!.

The OP does have a point, but the prices can be wrong and as everyone on here knows often are.

The point being the invitation to treat etc, the op offered the price on the board but it was refused and new price was offered and accepted, the OP didn't bother to find out the new price so who's fault is that?

The OP can complain about the sign to trading standards who would, if they had nothing better to do, investigate the sign to see if it was a genuine overlooked mistake or if it was a deliberate ploy to bait the customer., they would then take action based on that.

I guess it depends for how long the sign has been out-of-date with regard pricing. If the OP has been charged an extra 10p for lots of drinks then the amount may be worth chasing.

Regardless, a quick E-Mail or comment on Social Media to Starbucks should bring a swift resolution in the Op's favour.

Yep, armed with two pictures (the sign and the receipt) and OP will probably get a goodwill gesture in the form of a "free" coffee. :)

and that's it, a goodwill gesture, an invitation to treat is none binding, the contract is formed at the till, which the OP agreed to by paying.

I'm a bit confused by this. Say the price on the board for an espresso was £3.19 and the OP orders an Espresso, surely the cashier would say £3.29 please or it would come up on the till £3.29?

No confusion necessary, the OP clearly says he has been using Contactless payment and ignoring the price he was charged..
