For anyone out there that feels we're all clickey and worry about joining in on diaries please don't feel that way...you're welcome on mine anytime and I know Hypno will say the same about hers...
Absolutely! Always welcome!! Especially if you have any tips on how I can catch taxi up in the race to get our debts down to £35000!!!
(not obsessed with this challenge or anything but.........!)
I do remember when I was a newbie, it took a while before I felt confident enough to post on some of the more established people's threads, but I dipped my toe in the water, so to speak, and now spend most of my life here!
And in the process, I have paid off over £9500 this year alone - something I would never have done without the support of these boards.Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. oh ricketts i dont think youve really given this board a real chance i agree with what you are saying i'm afraid i dont know exactly what thread you are talking about but maybe there is another side to the story that your just not giving a chance too ...enjoy mse either way you will find some fantastic people on here and some not so fantastic but then that's the same as in real life0

I remember the thread that Ricketts is talking about although the only reason the person was shot down was because she had joined up and posted a referal link in her first post what is against the rules of the site and also if you are here long enough you realise just how many spam threads get started on here.
I didnt comment on the thread but agree that it did get rather insulting in some parts and I dont bother getting caught up in internet arguments. Overall though the regular posters on DFW are non judgmental and will offer great support and advice. Unfortunely there are a few trolls on here also and like anywhere npot everyone is going to agree. I hope it hasnt put to many people off and it certainly i a reminder how all of us should be careful how we conduct ourselves why online

I agree totally Crown and I must also say then there are some people on here who WILL apologise if something they say is taken the wrong way.
As in 'real' life we cannot control what the people around us say or do. Some people can be judgemental, although I know I for one try not to be and keep any advice I give out to the point.Current debt - £16,300

Message boards and forums do have there quiet times and busy times its just part of the flow.
I agree with the amount of spam you get on here some is obvious, others are more cynical people making out they are in difficulty but really plugging a company - they get my back up and if anyone sticks around long enough they will work them out and agree.
I remember that "woman" who was a spammer if you read long enough you would see they miraculousy turned into a man, along with several other changes along the way. We all have to abide by rules they are there to protect people, and there are some people in very vunerable positions on this forum so they need looking after, sadly this topic happened on a weekend when there was less "big" guys around to delete it otherwise you would never have noticed.0 -
Hi
I'm new here too. Having looked around I can say that you guys are doves (opps wanted to put the common name for feline creatures but it wont let me) compared to the guys on the MFW board - they are MEAAAAN!
Hope they don't come over here (hee hee hee) 0 -
Sorry, did my usual trick of thanking a post I meant to quote. You may not have found anything 'especially enlightening re debtbusting' on these boards, but an awful lot of people do, and find a great deal of support and friendship here. This thread has really made me laugh. I have to agree with some of the people who have admitted to feeling too intimidated to leave comments in case they're shot down. A friend suggested this site to me a while back and the first night I browsed I caught a thread where members of this wannabe thread were taking great delight in taking the mick out of a woman who'd suggested part time jobs. No thanks were offered, just a very spiteful stream of vicious comments about her job, spelling, grammar, etc. Congratulations - you put me off.
And how many others, I wonder? Good work there then.
I actually joined up a few days ago but this is probably the only time I'll post on the debt boards. Having browsed on here since that first time I've not been especially enlightened re debtbusting, but it does strike me that if you're not "in" you're definitely "out". Such a shame - my friend was waxing lyrical about how useful this site is. I'll just agree to disagree with her on this one.
This forum attracts its fair share of spammers, of which the 'woman' you are referring to was one. If you had fully read the thread, you would have noticed that her true colours very quickly showed, when she started slating those that WERE in debt. And if you had checked a few of the other threads that were around that evening, you would have seen that we are actually a really nice group of people, who had perhaps just been pushed a bit too far by someone who was intentionally breaking the sites rules, and preying on people in vulnerable positions.
Yes, maybe we should have just risen above it (and usually do), but we are human after all, and we are just normal people, not trained debt counsellors. Also, no-one gets paid for the advice and support they give on here, people genuinely do do it out of the kindness of their hearts, so that may be something to consider before you make such a damning judgement of us all."I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -

Debtbusting is a very personal journey and it is about taking what information you can find here and there on lots of areas of MSE (not just the DFW board but other boards such as Old Style and Grabbit) and applying it to your own situation until you have a smooth working plan to set off on your own debt free journey. You'll then find that you can use your own experiences in either reducing debt or saving money to help others. I found MSE a bit confusing navigation wise when I first joined (anyone else remember the Tesco Beef in Gravy points error - that's how I found MSE!) but after sticking with it for a couple of days I soon found my way around. MSE can help in so many aspects of someone's life, not just becoming debt free, but for tax, pensions, buying presents, cooking tips etc etc etc. It is a gold mine of information which is definitely worth digging around to find out what is relevant to you - you'll probably find things that can help you which you didn't even know existed - I know I did!
There isn't any 'in' or 'out' - come and say hello at a Friday or Saturday DFW party - everyone is very welcome - even more so if you have a party piece!

 Hello my lovelies,
Blimey. I miss all the action! I'm ever so sorry that you've formed a bad impression of us Ricketts, I feel quite bad about that.
But I'm pretty new myself, (I've only been posting for a couple of weeks) but I haven't seen any aggro, or felt "on the fringes". (although I am rather thick skinned....
)
I've never seen any posts ignored either???
But I have learned ever such a lot - and I'm still learning. I really wish I'd come on here about 13 months / £60k ago. I think we might have made some different choices, But hey ho!
I've been feeling a bit guilty that I haven't read many people's debt diaries - but I do try and pounce on the newbies if I see anybody left hanging with no replies yet.
I believe that most people on here do the best they can to help others along, and I'm trying to do my bit (as an experienced debtor.:D )
I really hope you'll stick around and get to know some of us a bit better before you pick up your ball and go home.

Jacks xxx you sound like a credit to a board like this (although I could have done without the "picking up my ball" comment!). I'm sure that there are people on here who mean well, but take it from a fellow newbie - if you read comments like the ones I did on browsing, you do begin to wonder. Thankfully, my debts aren't that massive. I would have felt a lot worse if they were, I'm sure. I'll probably browse here from now on and pick up any useful tips before heading off to the savings board when I'm done. Thing is, I'm quite upfront and will say what I think (ie that I was annoyed by what I'd read). Many people aren't and particularly when they're feeling low enough by debt and stuff. I just hope that if there is help to be had no one is feeling put off like I was. All the best.
Cheers sweetie!
I was only playing with the "ball" comment - I'm a notoriously cheeky mare
I'm glad you're not going to abandon us as a bad lot entirely, and I probably should mention that I really admire people who speak as they find .
My best mate Claire has never "prettied it up" or held her tongue for anybody and that's one of the things I like most about her.
I feel horrible that other newbies who needed help might have just slunk away thinking we're all big fat bullies, and I'll try to pay more attention in future to make sure I miss less.
Cheers for posting this, it doesn't hurt to make people think about how things can be perceived once in a while.
