Pub rounds

Rounds work in a group of up to 4...as long as you can handle 4 pints that is. It is quite a lot to drink for many people. Many smaller people can really only handle 4 halves before being quite tipsy whilst larger people will still be completely sober after 4 pints and ready for more.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Agree with the view that rounds only work for me with a maximum of 4 people.
I also find it incredibly annoying when people have cheap drinks when it's their round and switch to expensive ones when it's mine. So many people do this, and I don't know how they've got the nerve!
Just as annoying is having to split a large group restaurant bill equally when I've had a one course and a coke and others have had deserts and several glasses of wine.
Rounds can be avoided if you can't afford or don't want to participate by arriving slightly later when everyone has their drink in, but before they've finished it and getting your own, and continuing to do so; or by saying straight out you'll get your own as you're on a budget, just staying for one, not drinking tonight etc etc.

I don't mind rounds, but that's because I don't drink with people who would take advantage of me. Given alcohol makes you more vulnerable, why would you go to the pub with people you don't really like or trust that much?0

I think they can also work for larger groups which meet regularly. I used to be part of a group which met every week for a shred hobby. We would always go to the pub afterwards. There would typically be 8 or 9 of us, and we would usually have one or two drinks each, but as it was the same group every week, different people would buy the rounds each week. It worked pretty well.
But I do think that other than in that kind of situation it's best to have rounds in small groups, no more people in the round then the number of drinks you're likely to have in the evening. All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0 -

Rounds (two people) can also get complicated when paying debts too. Correct etiquette when you "owe someone a pint" for their help is to buy them said pint and yours, then start the rounds with you buying the next pints. Not "there's the pint I owe you" and expect them to get the next round - that'd just be you getting the first round, not paying up.0

Hi,
if 8 or 9 of you buy the third or fourth round, that way you should get full value for your spend, and hopefully not get caught for a second round, and if you do, by that time, you won't be caring what you spend.0 -
Tend to only buy own drinks when out.
The only exception is I will insist on buying friend who picked me up & will be taking me home a drink for their trouble if applicable.0
