Have you seriously considered backing up your data and install Windows from fresh? You could also use this opportunity to try Windows 10 from fresh and if you don't like, wipe it off, safe in the knowledge your data is safe, and do a clean installation of Windows 7/8.1.

I realise the above isn't the perfect solution as it puts your computer out of action while you format, update then configure to how you want. But, long-term, it's probably the most trouble free solution.

I must warn you that if you do choose to do a clean install of Windows 7, you will almost certainly encounter problems running Windows Update. There are workarounds, but we shall cross that bridge if and when we come to it.

If you do go down the reinstall route, I cannot highly enough sing the praises of getting an SSD instead of a HDD. I nearly binned my current laptop a year ago, I hated using it and dreaded restarting it. Now I won't be halfway to the kettle before it's on the occasional time I need to. Programmes start rapidly. It's like a new machine and i love using it now.

People seem to think Windows 10 is the most evil of all operating systems.

I upgraded within days of release, never had a problem.

Best to back up all important data, then do a fresh install (deleting everything) - Windows 10 makes this easy.
Then install your programs again and test for a few days before installing the next one, unless you know the program is good to go.
