Well I've just had the confirmation email regarding the line rental saver being paid by me for the following year which I was told to expect (same as last year) but no charge should go on the credit card.

I did go over the details several times just to make sure we both had the same understanding so I'm hopeful as I've never had a problem with something thats been offered by retentions - probably because I do my best to make sure I've checked every aspect of the offer prior to agreeing. Bit OCD when it comes to spending my money :D

EDIT: Note that I cant stress enough being prepared for the call with alternative deals. The MSE sky deal was that I discussed (half price line rental and free broadband), making sure I included the unlimited calls add on to make the package the same as what I have with Virgin so it was a direct comparison.
Remember that they dont owe you anything and try to keep the discussion pleasant. Its not helpful to get annoyed/angry - if you are not getting anywhere just tell them you want to think about it and ask them to call back and you will probably get someone else next time.

That's awesome, yeah I also had the line rental saver email which I had to query as I wasn't told to expect it.
I'm happy with the £25 a month, could I have negotiated down some more? Maybe but I was very happy with what they offered so accepted.

I thought the MSE deal was for TV only? £30pm for all TV..no?

If it includes half price line rental and free BB then great. I wanted to use the MSE deal if/when I get a call back, but was told on another thread here it's just TV.

It's been a week since I cancelled, no call yet.

there was another deal a few weeks ago for the half price line rental and free broadband - if you get Martin's weekly email check that and you'll find it.

To be honest I would have settled for £30 for our current package which is what we currently pay. I certainly wasn't going to argue at something significantly less :)

Mind you they need to get the broadband fixed as its currently dire and makes even browsing an issue. Downloading/streaming would be almost impossible but thankfully we dont do much of that other than iplayer Cbeebies shows now and again - usually when our 6 year old gets fed up with waiting for the TIVO to access My Shows!

    Quicky guys.

Does anyone think I could do better than this? I rang the thinking of leaving us number - Retention's is that the same? and got offered this deal:

    6mths@ £22.75
6mths@ £25.25 with one month free

I just have the 70mb Fibre and currently pay £27.75 but going up to £30.74 in Nov.

Should I threaten to cancel and hope for a call for a better deal?? or is that as good as it gets???

Haha yeah £30 was gonna be my acceptable amount!
Luckily for us we never have issues with our broadband( touch wood) and usually my two kids watch YouTube toy videos at the same time as we browse on our iPads.

I think you should be able to do better. You cant phone retentions, you need to put in your cancellation and then wait for them to call back. you tend to get better deals with packages rather than just one service though.

This is a BT fibre deal emailed out this morning which includes line rental and weekend calls and works out at about £22 per month: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/utilities/cheap-broadband#btfibre

Use that to bargain with Virgin

Just had a call from VM, I settled on paying the same as I am now for 12mths, and a new 1G Tivo and hub3.
BB is supposed to be 200mb/s, I'm getting 132.45 (connected with a cable).
I was literally just about to plug the cable in when they called!

You need to cancel before you get to speak to retentions and you need to wait for them to call. You can sometimes get a decent deal just by speaking to customer services once you've gone through the menu selecting you are thing of leaving but the best come from retentions.

    Cheers.

If I do cancel am I then fully committed or can I back out of the cancellation?

Just seen a few people on here claiming they never got a call from retentions before the cancellation date so the cancellation bluff essentially backfired.

Is this the deal whereby line rental is £17.40/mth (£208.80 for the year), with unlimited 'free' broadband, free router but £9.95 p&p, & £50 M&S voucher?
