Stumbled across this thread by chance - relating to my renewal about 6m ago - and i've not heard of the price increase before. Has everyone had an e-mail about it or are some still waiting?

Many are still waiting as they are phasing the notifications.

Not all customers are affected, call 150 / virgin number and enter your account number/phone number when it asks you then go to the change package/moving/cancellation option. Automated message will tell you if you are not affected.

I never received any notice but entering my last 30 days I called recently and had the message saying if you are calling about price increase you are not affected.
  • Had a call from retentions.

The best they could offer is £34 for 100mb and anytime calls for 18 months.

Declined the offer and they are going to ring back tomorrow.

Any advice would be much appreciated

I haven't seen people mention anytime calls (time to review if you actually get the value from that?).

There is an extensive thread on HUKD with reports of what people are achieving:

I posted on the 18th that on trying to get a better deal at the end of my contract I was offered £26.23 for 12 months and I said I'd think about it.

I've still not had a call from retentions and after someone posted that due to GDPR they might not be able to call me I changed the settings in my account and went shopping for a new deal yesterday.

Via Quidco I can get BT's Superfast Broadband for £29.99 plus £110 cashback, bringing it to around £23.99, plus they have a £100 BT reward card offer.

Downside is I need to get a phone line fitted for free which I won't use.

Not sure if that will encourage Virgin to call me now - do they get an alert to say you're switching to another provider?

PS. Does it take being away from Virgin for 12 months to be eligible for 'new customer' deals?

I did read on here and some other threads that a new provider looking to take your phone number often triggered Retentions into action. I’m looking at Vodafone who can’t take a Virgin number over so was advised to cancel the phone line where as Virgin left it running to facilitate the number move. I’m hoping that might have an equivalent effect.
  • Have any super bargainers out there managed to snag a great deal from Virgin for BB only? I'm currently on 100meg for £22 per month although going up to £25 with the price increase.

I'd need a new line if I move away from Virgin but not too bothered about competing with the "100meg" that Virgin supply me because to be honest at peak time I get about 30meg anyway.

Comparing on MSE or elsewhere I can get TalkTalk 36Mb fibre for (effective) £19.17 per month. So the plan is to ring Virgin and cancel and then through retentions try and get them to the £20 a month price point. Possible?

  • To answer my own question, called them yesterday and told them I wanted to leave, took about 20 seconds for them to "see what they could do" before coming back and offering a discount to keep my price the same until the end of my contract. At £22 its still more then I could have got Talk Talk but sometimes its just easier to stay as you are to save the hassle.

Anyway I got home last night and my internet was down all night....:mad::mad::mad: Looking at Social Media it seemed like it was a mass outage. All back on this morning though.
