Silver fish

Silver Fish are great if you want them all over your kitchen work surfaces, on your food, plates and anything else that is low enough for them to get to. They will even climb up walls so nothing is safe while they are in a home.
Chances are that they are getting into your home through small openings somewhere. I have tried repeatedly to eliminate them without success. I know that they were getting in around the bottom of my porches but I have sealed that on multiple occasions with some success but it does not seem to last long before the seal breaks.
You can look for spider webs because those can give your clues. My latest idea are the water pipes that come through the floor under my kitchen cupboards which does have spiders webs around a hole where the pipes come through the floor. I suspect that the hole is open, it's difficult to see under the kitchen cupboards. I intend sealing the pipes filling most of it with cement to fill up the majority of the hole and then around the pipe fill with a low expanding foam that I purchased for another job that I have not yet done. That should fill it up and not risk damaging the pipes.
They can get through any tiny hole or crack. I doubt that they came on your body you probably just did not notice them before.0 -

They usually emerge from pipe s from the underfloor void, they only come out at night and as far as I know they do now damage, so whats the issues?
Your underfloor will always be damp, that's what it's there to protect you from.
Exactly.
IF you're suddenly seeing loads of silverfish, either you've changed your behaviour so now you're around at the same time they are, or you've had a sudden change in damp conditions in your house!
Having said that, we are current;y in the midst of an invasion of woodlice. I picked up 10 in my hall last night, without even going looking for them... So perhaps it is seasonal or due to mild winters etc0 -

Well I gave the explanation for this but saying silverfish get up onto worksurfaces is simply scaremongering, if you can quote 1 issues of injury, poisoning, illness or hospitalisation that I will take that back and lick your boots,I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
I'd found them on the work surface plenty of times, can't say they caused injury or specific illness but the little !!!!!!s were definitely there !Bow Ties ARE cool "Just because you are offended, doesnt mean you are right" Ricky Gervais0

It's a bit like mollycoddling kids, they are a fact of life like all insect and animal life. We develop a reasonable tolerance to them but it still relies to some extent on a certain degree of exposure to the creatures to ensure they don't appear as alien to us.
Zap the blighters with whatever, but don't get hung up on them, your dog, the pigeons outside or the next person that walks street grime into your house is a greater risk to your health.:DI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

It's not scaremongering at all. If they are in your kitchen then they will be on your kitchen worktops and on ANY foodstuffs that you leave out even for short periods. They do not wipe their feet either after walking over the ground picking up bacteria etc. Most people would not want these things walking over their food as you just do not know what they are transferring to your food. You have no idea what problems that they might be causing to your health. So please do not comment on what you do not know! You do not know how harmful some bacteria can be! Are you aware that bacteria cause ALL autoimmune illnesses? No you do not! Therefore who is to say that it is not insects that might be causing such illnesses. Illnesses such as Asthma and Arthritis can be serious and so can Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. All of these are caused by a bacterial infection! It's just a question of where the bacteria come from although it could be present on food but it could just as easily come from the feet of insects!
That means that people cannot use their kitchen worktops because of damn insects! Trust me I have been living with these damn things since I moved in to my home and it is not at all pleasant. They only come out after dark.
My advice to people is to search your outside property for any gaps where they might be getting in. Look for spiders webs as these will give clues to their possible runs. It only takes a very tiny hole in a frame, maybe where sealant has split where they can get into. I have tried some Diatom Pest but I am not sure how effective it is. It is meant to dry out their bodies and kill them and silverfish are mentioned on the carton. Stopping them getting in is the only real solution which is harder said than done.0 -

What complete and utter raving nonsense.0 -
I was leaving my bag on the floor in staff kitchen before I realised that there was silverfish or they could get into your bag. I saw them on kitchen top one day crawling in tea bags. I told manager that there's silverfish crawling in food in the kitchen and she said they are not harmfull. Then couple of months after they started appearing in my house. I hang my bag now and never leave it on floor. We have decided to rip our laminate floors next week as getting new kitchen and we dont want them in my new kitchen.0
