I had a letter from Yorkshire Building Society this morning and normally I would just discard the bumf and file away immediately in an effort to keep the paperwork piles in any sort of order.

Even now letters from banks and building societies still bring with them a sense of fear but I have now been making myself time to actually sit and read them, every word. Last year Nationwide closed 3 of my very old accounts so that needed a bit of sorting out. The Leeds BS sent me 2 letters a few months apart and what I had not fully grasped was that the account I had was closing, no more deposits but it could stay open for another 6 months. Then the normal monthly standing order bounced back so I rang them up very puzzled. So now I am forcing myself to read everything.

For anyone with a very old Yorkshire Building Society regular saver issue 2 the interest rate is decreasing from 7th March 2017 – probably all of the YBS savings accounts are doing the same.
It was 0.75% with 2% conditional bonus total 2.75% gross but it will now be 0.50% with 2% conditional bonus total 2.50% so still a very good rate.
This is a closed account but the conditions were that you had to save at least £10 a month for at least 11 months out of 12 and only one withdrawal in any account year to keep the bonus. You also could only close your account at the end of your account year or you would lose the bonus.
The good news is that the maximum you can save each month is now increasing from £250 to £500 from March 1st.
The bad news is that the account has a maximum holding balance of £20,000 which includes any interest or bonus. As you get over the £19 mark then it’s worth doing your one annual withdrawal and/or reducing down your monthly standing order. If you go over £20K you won’t get your full interest or bonus.
I did a very amusing calculation as to which year it would be that my YBS account would get to that £19K point and made a note of it on the Google calendar for future housekeeping.
But then I thought I have a 4 year fixed rate ISA which will be reaching its final days next year and the contents of it will either have to be re invested somewhere (or spent!) ….
If I ever get our builder here again the YBS account would soon be decimated :D

YBS only has this regular saver open now paying 1.75% - open in branch or by post, up to £500 a month for up to 2 years, one withdrawal per year, one account per person. It is through open to anyone over the age of 11.
I think only one regular saver is allowed

I know exactly what you mean. Both of mine have DVD TVs in their rooms - they even have one each for the car, which I can understand for long journeys and their mum needing to concentrate on the motorway etc., but I remember driving the length of the M6 on my own with DD aged 9, she was reading Secret Seven books the whole way. But in fairness she had no-one to argue with!

I have explained to DGD about bright light at bedtime keeping her brain awake when the rest of her wants to sleep, and that it is not a happy combination, and she understands that and almost never asks for a DVD. But with DGS I don't even think about his TV, it's storytime.

My granddaughter who is 9 months old has 2 or 3 stories every night and she has a play list of music that is played to her at bed time. When I look after in the afternoon I play her Ludovico Einaudi ( a classical Italian pianist my sister caters for on tour) and as soon as I switch it on she starts to drift off.

    Its this one

DD is determined she wont have an ipad or mobile phone for as long as possible and certainly wont have a tv in her room. Both my children were brought up on books and music and they want to pass that on to their children. Mind you my DS has a serious TV and DVD addiction ( think it was an escape from the alcoholic father !!) and his wife is always complaining about how much tv he watches!!

Just thinking out loud here. Ive done 2 of the razor shops online and also done some smaller apg shops earlier in the month so I must be approaching £100, so need to use another A account.
Thought Id put it here as a reminder to others.

Morning all - I am all behind again. I wrote a very comprehensive To Do list in hourly slots so I can cram in as much as possible,
assuming this grey cloud ever shifts and I can get outside to get some vitamin D and to reset my body cloud, sleeping badly again so I think it needs some natural light

And that was before I went into the living room and found one cat seems to have spent the night shredding fur everywhere, either that or there has been a spectacular fight in the night ...:D

and then the postie comes and brings things that need sorting out and thoughts and decisions made ...

Get some vit d tablets mhoc to tide you over only 99p for 90 inHB I think it was :D

Snaps painting reminds me of one on last series of fake or fortune but that one was a child in a red coat. It's lovely and definitely has a 'style' the angles remind me of cubist but a think more Picasso when he wasn't putting eyes in wrong places.
Such a huge family item to find. I take it Mr and Mrs Snap Ant have kept almost everything they every owned and have been in current home since their children were very small.
So please you insisted on going down to see this lively painting as it was found.
Did you know it was you before you were told?

:) Mum & Dad were both art teachers, Dad went on to being an art inspector for GLC then ILEA.
They love drawing & still continue. Dad now using his left hand.
When we were children they used to take students on 'art holidays' where we would sleep in 4 high bunk beds in hostels around the country. Spending all day painting, Dad & I would walk & get fish & chips for 20 & a Bar Six each :) happy days.
Once we were camping on Portland Bill & it was so windy the cornflakes blew start out of your bowl :rotfl:we ended up in the Church Hall for safety - & everyone used Grandma's bath.
    Sorry getting carried away :o
No - Mum was going through a stack of paintings, and produced this one stating it was me  I have no memory of it.

TM, if you buy anything from Approved Foods proceed with caution. There are definitely bargains to be had but look carefully at sizes, some things are gigantic.

:o:o:o I'm still getting through the gallon of Lea & Perrins Worcester Sauce I bought in 2012 for 99p:) tastes fine :)

I think that is a really good idea, there was something in the press that said that in the Uk we need to take Vitamin D from October onwards because of our lack of sun. You need to have 20 mins skin exposure each day without any sun block on - hypothermia would set in after 10 mins in our winters :rotfl:

And we have been home from holds now for a month so any vitamin D we accumulated in January now has long since dwindled away ...
