LEJC, that was lovely for you to try and do what you could to help. Just don't be surprised if nothing changes quickly. Some people who've lived on the streets a long time find it difficult to adjust to having a bed and a roof and routine, and people expecting things of them. But you've done what you can, and more than most, so you should be pleased about that, and take it easy today!

While I'm about, does anyone know whether Amazon charge for returns? I'm thinking of buying a Hamilton beach breakfast muffin maker for £14.99 but would want to return it for free next week if it appears on a lightning deal or Black Friday offer.

This looks like a good gift

I have found best way to find photos for this is to stalk fb accounts. No doubt your niece has put a few up.
Jigsaw is good as can have it framed if they want to when finished.

You must have read my mind VT....I was talking to OH last night about the puzzle and I think we came to the conclusion that FB might be a good place to look for something suitable picture wise....he actually did come up with the exact comment of picture on the wall when finished too.
We still cant work out if they are puzzlers or not but hoping that an inspiring picture might spark them to give it a go.

Thanks to Snap again for the suggestion and link....I'm hoping to get something sourced over the weekend and order it the early part of next week...

Thanks! I'll be leaving the house for the first time in days today so I'll pop by the pound shop to see what they have on offer! :D Do you reckon I could put shortbread in them, or would a box of some description be better?

As I understand it, Reece's pieces are like M&Ms but they contain peanut butter instead of chocolate. Unfortunately none of my family eat peanuts, let alone peanut butter, but I'm sure that would be a good and cheap idea for a lot of other festive bakers :)

Hoping to get a couple of advent calendars, some selection boxes, the cellophane bags and some birthday cards, plus some boring groceries. I'm expecting a 50% success rate, going by previous experience, so do I want the chocolate or the milk and bread?:cool::D

a 50% success rate is very high, quite regular I go out and get about one item out of maybe 6 items on my list so I have to count "getting out of the house, getting some fresh air and exercise" as the main reason, at least the day is not a total failure

Regarding Sainsburys Tu jumpers - they have some great designs and colours but the material they are made from feels very thin, no warmth and nasty. I think even with very careful usage and washing and depending on how long this winter goes on for you might get one years usage, maybe 2 at best before they really go flat and matted.
I don't know what the answer is to the sweater problem, I suppose you just have to be always looking for good enough ones each year and accept that they might be condemned to the charity bag sooner rather than later.
Marks is no better. I've got a grey one with a big black heart in the middle which I've only had maybe 1 winters use out of but its lost its shiny newness so its got to go.
The thin ones I wear under pinafores and also as an under- jumper underneath thick woolly ones, also under fleeces as an extra layer, because they are not seen so it does not matter that have gone bobbly.

I dont watch Im a Celeb but was reading MSN online this morning ( DS is one of the editors ) and apparently Scarlett has been excused some of the tasks cause she had Bells Palsy at 11!
Now I had it at 17 myself and had some therapy and was left with a slightly droopy smile.
I think she's just using it as an excuse not to do the tasks which is not really in the spirit if the programme. Still I suppose its ok she is a " Celebrity"!!

Thank you all for the lovely comments about last night....I must confess I know very little about being homeless, and yep I fully expect nothing to change regarding the potential to house this lady.
I guess there are some people who are happier with freedom or are unwilling to accept what help can be given...that all part of human choice.

I will every few days pop down with something small...I guess even a cup of something warm when its cold has got to be better than being ignored by everyone else who walks or drives past.

This sort of thing has really started to get to me...perhaps in the past I've been a little immune to it...or maybe I'm just going soft in my old age...but kindness costs nothing and the small gesture of a little food or warm drink isn't going to impact me much...but it may help her.

I'm going to wait and see what comes of the report I did via Seren's link last night...there was the option to tick the box to be updated on progress...I ticked it so hopefully I will at least get some further acknowledgment.

    I'll keep you posted

My sister lives abroad and gets me cashmere jumpers from the Italian market for about 35 euros. Sounds expensive but I handwash and dry flat and they keep their shape, are warm and look good. Maybe worth the investment
  • Good morning all, it's friday:j

LEJC what a very kind and warm hearted thing for you to do :)

TINY - hope you had a good nights sleep, have you made that Dr's appt yet?

Well I'm pleased to report that my DH has understood his instructions with regards to the up and go's. ;)
I'm making the most of the Waities PYO, so we can replenish stocks in the store cupboard. Yday was the teabags being restocked. 43p to pay for 100 twinings earl grey, twice.
Today he has started the xmas food shopping. 28p for the jumbo king prawns. Managing to use 3 vouchers per shop, so far so good:T

He's then been asked to go to toscos in his lunch hour to look for the CS selection boxes, obviously whilst getting an up and go at the same time. I bet he wishes I never found you helpful lot a few years ago:rotfl:

I thought the same when I looked at them the other day in store...it's a shame really as a few years ago they had really quite good quality ones...I got the "bah humbug" one then for DS...I was going to get him something more christmassy for this year but it won't be from S....

Sadly most of his chrismas stocking seems to involve chocolate or alcohol ,shot glasses and general drinking games!
