Thanks for this juju....and anyone else who's bringing info on coupons over.
It's a pasta tea this evening...I've some barilla dried filled three cheese tortellini that was rtc from £1.69 to 17p a few weeks ago...and am going to make a homemade cheese sauce to go with it.
Where I think we might "fall down" with the challenge is with puddings/desserts....somewhere along the line years ago we started having them daily and they can range from something full blown to something quite basic like a biscuit or chocolate with a cup of tea after our evening meal....I am struggling to see how they will fit within budget...or if they do they may end up far more repetitive....with less of the nice varieties and more of a biscuit.
It also already feels like a lot more planning needs to go into eating when your budget is tighter.
how about rice pudding - its about £1 a bag, pudding rice - useful if the oven is on anyway and you can put jam or sultanas or stewed fruit or golden syrup with it.
Or old fashioned jelly - if there are just 2 of you then you only need half a pack and you can put fruit in it, fruit from the garden you have frozen down or chopped canned peaches
I think that you can also freeze pancakes - save some of the batter when you are making Yorkshire puds and use this to make pancakes ...
some ideas anyway“Create all the happiness you are able to create; remove all the misery you are able to remove. Every day will allow you, --will invite you to add something to the pleasure of others, --or to diminish something of their pains.”0 -

I think I want to avoid the rice pudding route...not that we dont like it but I think most of the mains will end up being somewhat rice or pasta based.
It's quite nice that we are getting into the cooler mornings as that means we can go into winter breakfasts of porridge and golden syrup...and that is really filling and very slow release.
I lost the frozen fruit I had stashed in last weeks fridge freezer death. The fact that my fruit has gone is possibly the one thing I was upset over.It means that there is no option for crumbles in the next few weeks....and whilst I was able to stock up on meat and reduced stuff for the freezer yesterday the fridge probably still has just the leftover bits of the basics shop I did at the end of last week,so I am hoping that my remaining budget for the week can be spent on some reduced veg and topped up perhaps with some wombled apgs.
We wont starve yet...but I can see the challenge getting progressively harder as repetitive food and maybe even the lack of meat kicks in later in the month.frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!

Just been for a quick shop in town.
Covent Garden with voucher at Mr T's 17p each
Superdrug Tresemme, did a test on just 2 bottles and a few fillers, member of staff who served me was very helpful and explained that if I had a loyalty card I would get the Tresemme half price AND BOGOF. Got a card from her and net cost per bottle £1.24 as I went back in and bought another 8 for £ 9.92. That's about 3 years supply for me :j0 -
LEJC I was going to suggest crumbles. I've got four casserole dishes full of prepped plums in the freezer awaiting toppings. We only have a pudding if we have visitors and I still can't lose any weight!
I shouldn't need to spend much this week tbh, famous last words! Last night we had a lovely roast pork dinner. I have one of those bags of spuds savvy said about from Morrie's so plenty of potato based meals for us. I love sliced potatoes layered with onions and bacon topped with either white sauce or the slimming variety is natural yoghurt and a beaten egg. It's so tasty and so easy to make.0 -

Yes same happened here when I lost my freezer contents at the start of September - the loss of the frozen fruit was the worst thing.
If I wanted to make a smoothie and fancied putting canned apricots in it I would open a can, use maybe 2 or 3 and then I would freeze down the rest on flat trays and then bag them ready for the next time - same with canned peaches.
And then there was the frozen down rhubarb from the garden and the apple sauce already in small pots ready to go straight in the microwave
Also if ever I got reduced lemons I would slice and freeze them down to put in iced drinks.
I also got masses of little boxes of blueberries reduced in Morrisons down to something silly like 17p ....“Create all the happiness you are able to create; remove all the misery you are able to remove.
